Why is Gemma Collins even on TV?

I think this about Alison Hammond! Absolutely pointless, yet she's on everything! I have a feeling these kind of people are like the show offs at school who always had their hands up, jumping up and down to answer a question - "me miss, me, me, me"!!!

What trend from the last decade is starting to feel/look outdated?

How were your teeth if you didn't get them professionally cleaned for quite a few years?

My old dentist used to refer me to the hygienist every so often, for stain removal and polishing. The one I have now never mentions it at all! All he's interested in is pushing dentures for my missing teeth at the back! Which I've managed with for years without the need for dentures! He does a deep clean beneath my gums every few months, but that's about it! Either it's my dentist or dentistry has changed! I'm due to go again on the 16th Feb, where I expect to have to decline the denture offer, yet again! 🙄

Do you, or anyone you know have an unusual phobia?

Same, anything vast (especially ships) and mechanical. Also mechanical things submerged under water, which I found out is a thing called submechanophobia. Panic inducing! I remember being in the Algarve and swimming in the sea. I could stand up in the water and see the bottom for a huge distance from shore! I was too busy staring down, then I looked back at the shore and my husband was the size of half an ant! I didn't realise how far out I'd gone, while I was swimming and bobbing about! I could still stand up to my armpits in the water! I turned round to look out to sea, only to realise I was roughly about 500m away from a massive cruise ship! It was gargantuan! It must have been anchored up in a deep water channel. I had to use all my concentration not to panic, as I didn't want to start freaking out and potentially drown myself! I still get panicky thinking about that!

Can anyone recommend a feel good British show/movie?

Did you observe the two-minute silence this morning? Why or why not?

DeborahSingleton_Bee@reddit

Yes, I did and I also went to the cenotaph in our city on Sunday. I've observed Remembrance Day since I was a child and 2 minutes out of your year isn't much to ask, to commemorate the many thousands of fallen. Who gave their lives defending us and our country. I had relatives in the war; some survived, some didn't. And my husband was in the Army. I shall continue to observe it as long as I live. It's being turned into something it isn't, the true meaning is being lost, all thanks to the PC brigade and "equal rights". I will continue to honour those who fought and died in our wars, for us, every year. That's what it's about.

What is the most shocking thing you've seen in public?

I was about 8 (late 70s) and in the car with my dad. We pulled up to a junction to cross a dual carriageway and my dad suddenly said "Don't look". And what do you do when anyone says that?! Yeah, you look... We must have just pulled up to the junction seconds after an RTA. The driver of the car I could see was hanging out of the side window and there were rivers of blood running down the door. Not me, but an acquaintance was having works drinks in a bar in the city on Christmas Eve. Sat in the window and suddenly a man lands on the pavement right outside the window. He was a solicitor who decided Christmas was a good time to throw himself out of a window above the bar. Dead on impact. I spent a couple of weeks in Leeds General Infirmary back in the summer. I was sat in my wheelchair outside the Jubilee Wing and a young girl, who didn't look well at all, was in her adapted chair, with her carer sat on the bench next to me. Suddenly the girl had a massive epileptic seizure, tipped the chair and landed on the paving. Doctors and nurses appeared from everywhere. A foreign family, 2 adults, 2 small kids, who were parked to the side of where we were and were actually leaving the hospital, came back from their car, basically stood over the girl and started staring. Staff asked them to move several times. I asked them to move too. They went to the car, loaded the kids in and came back to stare and video the event, before the privacy screens were wheeled out. I said I'd move, but I was asked to stay put as I was actually blocking the view from one side. That poor girl had the indignity of this awful family, mouths open, gawping at her as if she was something totally revolting. It really upset me for a couple of days, as I thought she was going to die and I didn't actually know if she'd survived. She looked close to death. Saw her a couple of days later, having a coffee and she looked fantastic! It was nice to see her looking so well. As for that family, words fail me 😡 Mid 70s, our family dog, a Westie, shot out of the car when we pulled up outside our house at about half ten at night. Mum had only just got hold of his lead, when he spotted a cat and went to bolt after it. Straight across the road, straight under the wheels of a Jag. I threw up there and then. The car stopped, our dog picked himself up, shook himself off, not a scratch on him!!! How he wasn't injured or killed I have no idea! That screech of brakes has stayed with me for nearly 50 years. Awful.

Is halloween dying out In the UK now and how busy was it tonight in your area?

Do you wear a poppy?

And to all the people saying "no I don't wear one, it's lost its meaning, it's all too political"... Are you not the ones who are actually pushing that agenda? You are the ones that by not wearing a poppy are giving in and going with the narrative. But with all the "virtue signalling" you're doing, I doubt that you even considered that. Whatever happened to respect and pride for our fallen troops and the ones who are still out there fighting?

I'm lucky, I live in Leeds and our water tastes lovely. I have been all over the country and Yorkshire is top for taste in my book. We have soft water. Lived in Lincs for a few years, that was a hard water area, tasted weird but you got used to it. Go to my mates in Grimsby every few months and the water tastes a lot better these days. Still hard as their kettle furs up quickly!

What's your personal hygiene levels in this heat?

DeborahSingleton_Bee@reddit

I shower daily, I use Hibiscrub, so I never smell anyway! I also use Mitchum deodorant. If I get too sweaty in between, I'll have a cool strip wash. It's not hard to stay fresh, clean and smelling nice in this weather!

Why are more people wearing scrubs outside work?

Posted by TedsterTheSecond@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 341 comments

DeborahSingleton_Bee@reddit

I spent 8 days in hospital recently, I have to agree, there are more and more staff outside in scrubs or uniform! I think it's highly unhygienic given their job! I worked in nursing homes in the 80s that required uniforms. I was only a care assistant, but we had to change into a clean uniform upon starting our shift, then put it in the laundry bin at the end. Basic hygiene like this would stop a lot of infections if you ask me!

If Australia was only a 2 hour flight away and offered every UK citizen a passport, would you move?

Would you poo in a bag if it was necessary?

DeborahSingleton_Bee@reddit

I had to dump in a bag in a bucket when our shower was out of action for a couple of days, being repaired... It's not ideal, but needs must in dire situations! I'd do it again if I had to!

Derek Jacobi pulled up in a posh sports car, to ask me directions to somewhere, when I was a teenager living in an arse end of nowhere village about 14 miles from Grimsby! (I knew I knew him, but couldn't remember who he was!) He was absolutely lovely, polite, chatty and thanked me profusely. Tried to describe him to my mum and failed! It was only a few weeks later, he was on something on the telly and I shouted "That's the man who asked me directions"!!!
