I've never had a problem with the professional competence of either an NP or a PA. And the scheduled drug thing must depend on what schedule the drugs are on, because my NP writes me a script for a sleep aid that's a controlled drug.

You and me both. My wife loves to tell the story of when we were dating (but well established) that we had gone to a bar and I had a bit too much. We got some buffalo wings and of course they come with celery. I took a big bite, spit it out, and said "Not drunk enough to like celery."

Not sure about work ethic. I used to bust my ass as a teenager. Then I went in the Navy, and that taught me it was more important to look like you're working than to actually work.

I have had this thought before, but I don't think it is anything quite so conspiratorial. Think about who are the protagonists in most dramas (and even soap operas)--cops, lawyers, doctors, and nurses. I think there are a few reasons. First, I think they want the professions of the protagonists to be ones that the most number of people can relate to. Most people have interacted with people in these jobs and have a rough idea of what they do. Second, and I don't know if this is a chicken or the egg sort of thing, but I think a lot of people imagine these jobs tend to be interesting. At least I did before I entered one of those jobs. Finally, I think it's easier to write dramatic stories that involve those jobs--health, crime, relationships, etc.

What is the best song that non-Gen-Exrs have never heard?

CommitteeOfOne@reddit

I'm firmly Gen X and I've never heard of most of these songs (and a lot of the bands). I've never had anything but "top 40" taste in music. I've always sort of admired people who are more "exploratory" with their music.

Our prom, in the late 80s, was segregated. They got around a public school sponsoring a segregated event by not using school funds or property. We also had both a black homecoming queen and a white queen. The superlatives were all like that as well. You guessed it, it's Mississippi.

Generation x'rs, do you still listen to the music you grew up on in your youth and teenage years, or do you mix it up with current music?

Posted by icecream1972@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 499 comments

CommitteeOfOne@reddit

I'd say about 90% 80s and early 90s music, and the rest current pop. There's a local station that plays just the right mix. They have this funny tag--, "Playing classics from the 80s and 90s and the hits of today." I mean, 8ps and 90s aren't old enough to be "classics." <cries in FM>

What bit of technology has brought out the inner luddite in you?

Posted by Sense_Difficult@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 926 comments

CommitteeOfOne@reddit

While I hate it's come to that, it shouldn't be surprising. As anything becomes more common, it is valued less. Back in the day of film, you knew every shot was costing you money, so you took fewer photos, and they were valued more because it was only "special* occasions that were photographer.

Well you can search for tags. For example, I add the tag "#Christmas" to Christmas photos. The problem now is even with the hashtag, the search brings up untagged photos it thinks are about Christmas.

It's a saying among photographers that more people are taking photos than ever before, but fewer people look at photos. As a kid, I used to go through our family photo album sometimes, see photos from a vacation, and think of some good memories for a few minutes. I can't tell you the last time I pulled up Google photos to look for photos from a vacation or any special event.
