Do you go to the cinema alone?

My thoughts are it's a bit odd to be old enough to have a 13 year old daughter buy still have mates who think going to the cinema alone is "gay"

Have you ever walked out of somewhere due to not being served?

Yes a few times, don't have to spend your money in places if it's not worth it. Last time I remember doing so we were acknowledged as we went in that it might be a while as they were so busy but we tried staying and, gave up after getting ignored for ages....the place was only about half full though so dread to think how bad it is when all the tables are taken,

Am I the only person in the country who doesn't care, at all, about Glastonbury?

I don't see what major festivals have better line ups unless your music tastes are more niche like metal. Just yesterday you had Neil Young, Charli XCX, Scissor Sisters, Doechii all playing at the same time. Also haven't been but I find usually on one of the 5 main stages there's someone worth watching whenever I turn it on over the weekend.

Buda or pest

Might depend on how much you like walking and/or nightlife. I stayed in Pest and spent most of my evenings in Buda, but I never got tired of walking over the bridges so would happily do the same again. And Pest is quieter which is nice for sleeping.

What other unspoken codes does the British elite use to recognize each other?

But or isn't really an r sound either. An r sound is like Rabitt, or LoRRy. You don't make the same mouth movement when you say or, door, lore etc.

How do I deal with a "Notice of Intended Persecution" from rail company around a train ticket?

Posted by emiche94@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 120 comments

wjt7@reddit

Regularly use the train and there are no barriers at my station either. The 1 or 2 times I haven't had time to buy a ticket always immediately find the guard and let them know, and they should let you buy a ticket from them without any issue. Maybe unless you get the most insanely officious guard. Doing it through the app it's too easy for people to get to checkout and just stay hovered over it only purchasing if they think there will he an inspection so understand why they don't let you buy after departure.

Why is Costa so popular?

There was a study that showed Costa are the strongest of the chain coffee shops. Not sure that's good for you but usually what I'm looking for when I get a large coffee before a train. This didn't surprise me from the taste but just how different they are did - Nero second lowest and Starbucks around 5 times less than Costa! https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/coffee-shops-caffeine-levels-costa-starbucks-b2274145.html

How many of you legitimately never iron?

I mean I don't notice because I don't care. Perhaps if I went in with the objective of noticing I could tell, bur I don't. And I'm not pretending, that's the truth.

>I guess I must be the biggest asshole in this thread for openly judging someone on something like that, but I do Yes you definitely are if you're judging people on that. I've been at a work event the last 2 days, meeting lots of people I've never met before. Couldn't even begin to guess who had ironed their shirt and who hadn't because it doesn't matter.

You made a post and said they all look dishevelled so not sure how you can say you don't give a shit. I find it incredible anyone cares at all if my shirt is ironed or not.

"Definitely wonder about the rest of his life" This is ridiculous. It affects nobody if my shirt is ironed or not.

Do you feel the age gap between you and your colleagues?

I'm only 33 which I think is quite young to think this, but I definitely do and it's come on quite suddenly in the last couple of years. We always have a couple of school leavers in the team, but recently it's all tiktok and influencers I've never heard of and striking up any conversation seems more difficult. It seems a big cultural change to even a few years ago, and I'm aware I'm Abe Simpson in his I used to be with it speech.

Is it silly to think the way we lay our knife and fork is quite important?

Can't see that saving minutes per hour. They're usually going around checking things anyway, and by the time they've hovered around checking all your cutlery positions they probably could have asked and had a response anyway. I really can't see it saving much if any time at all. Also would they really take a plate away without asking if it still had a lot of food on it? They may understand the signal so come over to try but thought they'd usually verify. Would test this theory but I rarely don't finish my meal the rare times I go out.

Looking back on 2000s British media, how bad was it?

I don't tend to listen to podcasts- but in fairness, rhe article on the guardian I read did mention this, and literally linked to Brands pagenshowing all the articles he'd written (last one being in 2015 as I clicked it)

What’s the most depressing town you’ve ever visited in the UK?

I lived there around 10 years ago, I do think its problems are mounting (as with many similar size cities) and I worry for it as I loved living there but agree with the other posters there is far worse out there. Millennium Stadium, Bute Park, the arcades all enough reasons it's got character to it and can definitely last longer than an hour!

When did Arctic Monkeys become a lounge group from the 70’s?

I had no distractions and kept staring off in to the middle distance and realising I wasn't paying attention. None of their stuff has really done it for me since their first 2 albums, and they crooned through some of those songs. Each to their own though :)
