Has a single incident ever changed how you saw a profession in the UK?

Posted by HallowedAndHarrowed@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1042 comments

williamshatnersbeast@reddit

I like the way you’ve asked a question about when one moment has changed an opinion of a profession and then basically gone on to say that you’ve never liked or trusted the police before listing one very serious, but isolated, case as your ‘watershed’ moment to support your fantasy about all police being bent. Fucking peak Redditor behaviour right there. Surprised you didn’t mention your Asperger’s, ADHD or autism diagnoses really.

What do you think about pubs livestreaming their venues on social media?

Posted by Kcufasu@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 108 comments

williamshatnersbeast@reddit

The points I made about social media do apply to Reddit in the general sense but I was replying to someone who had seen live streamed videos on other platforms, which was the entire point of the original post and their comment. So Reddit, in this case, was completely irrelevant and didn’t warrant being mentioned. It’s pretty much impossible to have this specific scenario happening on Reddit, although I suppose some people *could* stumble across a video of themselves that had been re-posted, which is why I didn’t include Reddit. But, again, don’t let context, like the content of a post, get in the way of your desire to try and show everyone how clever you are. Tells me all I need to know about you.

Simple answer to that is get off the cesspit of things like Facebook, TikTok and Instagram. Live your life free of the need to go and look at stuff like that and enjoy the moment. Who gives a fuck what a load of neckbeards think or say on the internet? It’s all just a load of guff to make up for their own insecurities anyway.

That isn’t something unique to ADHD sufferers. I think a lot of people who have ADHD seem to think that just general life things are some sort of marker for their condition. Mostly they’re not, they’re common things amongst the whole population.

Would it be a mistake to retrain as an apprentice post degree?

You’ve got probably 50 years to go so I’d very much advocate for you to do something you want to do. However, you’ll have plenty of time to change careers in the future if this doesn’t pan out. In terms of pay. Even at your age your first year will be on the base rate £7.55ph. It’s year 2 and beyond you’d go on to minimum wage. That’s still cheap labour for a business and they do regularly take ‘older’ apprentices as they’re supposedly more mature at that point. 23 is still incredibly young though so I wouldn’t overthink it.

Status for social media and tax loopholes because Sharon the coffee shop owner and Darren the barber need their pick-up for business purposes. Think they’re closing that loophole soon though. Status and obsession with copying whatever trend their footballer/WAG/[insert generic vacuous cunt] influencers are currently pushing won’t be made illegal, sadly.

Men of the UK - how often do you cook?

Posted by Vampire1111111@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 569 comments

williamshatnersbeast@reddit

Daily. I do most of the cooking because not only do I enjoy it but my wife believes I’m a better cook. She will cook on a semi-regular basis though as I work shifts and when she does cook her food is tremendous. But yeah, mostly me when I’m around because it’s something I really enjoy and helps me relax.

As far as I’m aware you can pay in instalments, albeit with interest applied, for up to 10 years. As long as the first payment is made within the first 6 months of the death. So even if there’s a hefty bill there are still options.

Do you find people treat you differently on the roads depending on what car you’re driving?

Posted by PuzzleheadedCarob921@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 370 comments

williamshatnersbeast@reddit

Do you also think this could be the wisdom of age a bit though, too? I’m far more chilled out now than I used to be and I probably drive better now than I did 10 years ago, to the point where I probably mitigate being in a lot of situations where the things you’re mentioning happen. Not saying it isn’t partly the car but maybe you’re also just a better driver now in addition to that?

Fuck mate. If you think you’re middle-aged at 38 then I must be practically geriatric. Loads of time to sort yourself out. Have you got a railway near you? Entry level requires little experience but it pays quite well and then there’s loads of opportunity for the future. Bear in mind you’ve possibly got 30 years of work ahead of you so you’ve got more work to come than you’d even have had the chance to get by now…

If you’re having one a week then the novelty wears off too. They have got worse in terms of quality and quantity but I find having one every now and then is more enjoyable as it’s the treat of not having to cook. I also choose takeaways I know are still decent too.

You did good, just to make it clear I’m not having a pop. Just thought they might’ve foiled her and then you could’ve got the jacket. Anyway, I suppose in high stress, time-sensitive situations people aren’t asking whose coat it is. Hope you get it back, if not then know you did a good deed and one day the karma will repay it.

Why didn’t they swap it out for some foil blankets? It’s not like she would’ve frozen in the 30 seconds or so it took to do that. That’s what I’d have been asking them to do because that’s exactly what they carry them for. Thermally she’d have been warmer in those than your jacket draped on her, unless you happened to have an expedition jacket with you on the off chance you were going to end up at one of the Poles.

Just wondering why she had to keep the coat on her though? Surely with paramedics in attendance they had some foil blankets or other such stuff they could’ve used at that point? It’s not like they’re not prepared for that sort of eventuality.

Refund from National Rail for being wrongly prosecuted - Should I accept or escalate?

Funny that I’m told to ‘bore off’ (which is just a way of someone confirming they were wrong about something but not being big enough to admit it) but you’ve then claimed it was a typo to several other people who have raised the same point. It ceases being a typo when you’ve repeated it several times in quick succession over different posts/comments. Facts are, believe it or not, important… like the name of the TOC in this case. Anyway, even though there’s possibly a bit of an issue with the fact you failed to follow up on your appeal and failed to update your address for correspondence, I hope you get your money back as you are owed it if you’ve been notified of wrongful prosecution. You’ll probably have a hard time claiming any mental anguish or hardship but you are entitled to push for interest that you could’ve had on the money. Whether you can push for the other things or not is a different matter and then you have to weigh up if it’s worth a lot of your time and effort for whatever that might be. If you’re getting the £3k plus interest I’d call it a day personally as it’ll likely be a lot of hassle for not much more but only you can make that decision for your circumstances. You won’t be getting hundreds of pounds on top, even if they do accept you have suffered other loss from the fine. It’ll never much black and white I think.s Obviously if they offer less than the amount you paid (which they shouldn’t) it’s worth much more of a fight.

‘National Rail’ If you can’t get that bit right I’d probably leave it alone as long as you get your money back. Out of interest, how did it get to three grand? Did you ignore the initial fine or something?
