this is gonna be a long one, but i feel like typin out this whole nightmare i went through years ago haha. pay wasnt terrible for a first company some weeks better than others, but the big problem i had with stevens was the hiring process as a new driver and lack of hometime. i had to go to texas for what i was told would be a week long refresher course followed by 2 weeks with a trainer otr. after taking a greyhound from philly to texas, i was informed that they wouldnt be accepting my hours of training i recieved from my cdl school and i would have to do their entire 3 week training course before getting into a truck. after 3 weeks of redoing cdl school and a week waiting to get into a truck with a trainer, i spent two weeks with one trainer who got into an accident while i was in the sleeper and was then fired. all this happened two days before thanksgiving so i was then stuck for another week waiting for a replacement trainer. the person i wound up being placed in a truck with was a complete slob who ran trips between reno and california in the snow. chain requirements (which prohibited me from driving) and a shutdown of i80 due to massive snow caused my training to extend past christmas. all said and done i spent basically 3 months in training unable to go home the entire time. this became a common occurance even after i got my own truck as i would not be routed home when requested and was basically trapped by them until i couldnt take it anymore and luckily wound up back in texas where i dropped the truck off and told them i was done. not sure if anybody else will read this, but its a seriously bad idea rush into starting your career with a company so far from your homes state. i was desperate at the time so it is what it is but i feel like a damn moron for putting myself in that situation. sorry if this is a mess of a post but whatever.

i wound up going to western cause they were offering weekends off and did that for a year, and then i got a local job home daily. believe it or not i had a pretty different experience with western than i think most have. would start monday morning home by friday night, made about a grand a week, not the best but it was fine.

shit is fucked out there. i dont really judge people for havin to get creative with parking. we have all been there so why pass judgement on a dude that probably just had a rough day and ran his clock out? theres not enough parking and some loads are just destined to end up this way. we all know that.

Is trucking viable?

Posted by Tight_Leadership_758@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 20 comments

form_jake@reddit

you will work 14 hour days most days, you will be eating shitty truck stop food, you will not be paid enough to justify it, you will spend weeks on end without a day of hometime. obviously some of this depends on the job or the person, but from my own experience this shit sucked for a long time before it became worth it. id say to just keep in mind that you will most likely start at some mega with low pay, bad training, no hometime and you will have to spend a year or two working shit jobs before you find somethin real decent. this job to me is the definition of emotionally and mentally draining. next to no hard labour just constant headaches and misery.

How Many of You Are Only Eating Fast Food?

i think a lot of the weight gain truckers see is more from how much they eat and how little they move. i tend to eat a lot of canned stuff chili, chef boyardi, refried beans and tortillas (foods that are definently not healthy) cause i dont wanna spend money on fast food constantly but even when i was i didnt gain 60 pounds in a year that seems insane.

Why does my instructor not like me using my right side mirror?

they are trying to help you pass the test, in the real world you get out as often as you want use every available resource. as far as your actual test goes however its best to just setup and back like a robot going through a checklist of markers and signals to look for all youre trying to do right now is pass the test actual training is what you get when your out on the road backing into docks just listen to your instructor and get your cdl
