Presume it is covered by private health insurance in the US? Not covered by health insurance in Ireland and it costs €500 so that puts a lot of people off until they are 65+.

Do you recognize her from the first photo? I didn’t! For as much as I loved her in the early 90’s, I’m thrilled that she is living a “normal” life on her own terms. Your thoughts?

It was when Andropov was president and apparently on his sick bed in a clinic outside Moscow and ready to push the button. The Russians genuinely thought that the West were going to attack particularly after Reagan announced Star Wars. Unlike the Cuban missile crisis which everybody knew about this was all happening behind the scenes. I do remember as school kids being walked down to the hall to watch a videotape of the film the day after which was cheery stuff for young kids.

Simple Minds Croke Park Dublin 1986. Started with the baseline of Waterfront. Lloyd Cole, In Tua Nua and the Waterboys in support. Remember a lad running up and down the pitched roof of the old stand with the crowd cheering. Up near the front on the pitch don’t think I moved all day.

I rolled in late last night, poured a whiskey and stuck on 80s music on YouTube. The algorithm pulled up Phil Collins sitting down at the piano in Philadelphia saying “I was in England this afternoon” and then he starts playing in the air tonight.

We GenXers have heard an extremely wide variety of music over the decades. So... what's the silliest song on your "all time faves" list?

There was a line in the book Primary Colors in which the protagonist says that he doesn’t like novelty music because music is too serious. That’s very much my philosophy and I think better of Bill Clinton after hearing that.

There was a line from the book Primary Colours where the Bill Clinton character said something to the effect of “I don’t like novelty songs, music is too important”. Wholeheartedly agree with that, there are some real horrors on this thread. I’d add in: Madness - the British satirical magazine Viz would always say “novelty band Madness” when referring to them Queen - for people who don’t really like music

What are the best and worst live concerts you've been to?

Posted by MeeranQureshi@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 653 comments

Worst: I'd seen Art Garfunkel in the early 2000s, it was wonderful gig, memorable to this day, voice pure and soaring like an angel. I saw him again in the mid 2010s, his voice was completely gone, speaking many of the songs and croaking through a few which was very hard to hear. I read now he had major problems with his voice from 2010, which I didn't know at the time. I don't want to be unkind or harsh for someone whose music I love but really he and his promoter shouldn't have held the gig and shouldn't have taken people's money on that basis. Best: like picking a favourite child, I'll go with a recent gig which was the Belfast band Kneecap. The energy of the band, the devotion of the crowd, it's what music and live gigs should be all about.
