Are any of those more expensive fans genuinely worth the money?

Just bear in mind it’s £75 for HEPA filters which on mine lasted maybe a year before telling me to replace (which I’ve still not done)

My Dyson fan is good because it’s Alexa connected and has a remote, so I can not move in bed and get Alexa to turn it on/move it/ increase/decrease. My Honeywell one is a beast to move air around with quite a small blade size.

Why can't we just have a terrestrial TV anymore?

Posted by CassiCatto@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 125 comments

Yeorge@reddit

You can, just plug in an aerial. Or better use the sky dish for freesat ideally with a Tv which comes with it built in. I love it, I’ll watch whatever movie is on film 4 at 9 or whatever reality shite is on channel 4.

I'm seeing more and more AI generated stuff around and about, why does it all look the same?

Something like a pub, who are tight in margins as it is, can now just prompt chatGPT to generate a poster for a Father’s Day event and have an ok poster in seconds. Rather than finding a local graphic designer, paying them a sum of money, back and forth about the design before receiving the poster several days later. It’s faster, cheaper and easier for small/local businesses. Not saying I like the idea of it.

Do you still see Wetherspoons food as a “bargain”?

Posted by BeneficialJuice2878@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 722 comments

Yeorge@reddit

It’s the sit-down equivalent of a Tesco meal deal. Yeah it’s cheap and cheerful, but it’s decent for a quick bite and a drink. I’m happy with a chicken burger chips and a pint, especially if I’m in London, saving myself £15 compared with going to a restaurant.

Why are so many people against increasing the minimum wage?

Posted by Spiritual_End_2593@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 392 comments

Yeorge@reddit

The issue is the government doesn’t set minimum wages for skilled workers (with the exception of public sector jobs). So the problem is that businesses choose not to raise their salaries in line with inflation or minimum wage. that’s why we see this wage gap shorten. Join a union, get mad at your boss.

Is the first time buyer preference for new builds a momentary shift or a generational trend?

Posted by Wifflebutter@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 220 comments

Yeorge@reddit

It’s the whole social media bs, younger people want to show off what they have. Cars, holidays etc. it doesn’t _matter_ to them if something is expensive or not.. just if it gives the illusion it is.. finance-out-your-arse a 26 plate base spec car? Same as mortgage-out-your-arse a base spec house. It’s a shit kitchen but it _looks_ nice in pictures..

Because unfortunately you can’t just choose where you want to live unless you follow the correct process to do it. You want out of your shithole country for better prospects for you and your children? Save up and apply for a working visa. Study and get a good job. That’s what everyone else in the world has to do.

We really wouldn’t care (in the nicest possible way) we would probably view Austrians the same as any German/Dutch/Belgian. You’re all good, we need more Europeans here.

Why would a car just be left on a street for months?

Posted by MegaMolehill@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 138 comments

Yeorge@reddit

You can try reporting as abandoned but from the point you report it needs to remain unmoved for 6 weeks (at least with my council.) If you need it gone I can only say that if the number plates weren’t on it then it’s illegally parked on the street..

Can you really earn £50k-60k as a DPD driver? Doesn't anyone have experience with this?

Posted by warhammerandshit@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 340 comments

Yeorge@reddit

I come from a family of drivers, I hear how it was alot more profitable 15 years ago, since a lot of foreign workers have flooded the market and are willing to work for less, the price per parcel has dropped. But the figure was even then, around 50-60k. But as others have alluded to, thats a 12 hour phyiscally demanding day, 6 days a week, self employed. Lots of costs involved. Would not reccomend.

Do people know of a good dual arm monitor mount?

Posted by Ok-Adhesiveness-8774@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 16 comments

Yeorge@reddit

I’ve found they’re always shit for any monitors over like 21” even when the spec says they run up to like 32”. I ended up getting two single arm [Kensington](https://www.argos.co.uk/product/4705545?clickPR=plp:6:43) ones from Argos and they’re decent, for dual 28” monitors

Surely this can’t be legal?

What is a UK job that pays well but most wouldn't realise it?

Posted by awildwildlife@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1824 comments

Yeorge@reddit

that's not really true. 'working in IT' doesnt equal shitload of money. It's the same with any profession, after a decade of work experience earning an average salary, then specialising in a particular field of IT, you can make a decent living. Same with any engineer/medical/legal/professional job.

Have you successfully avoided an early termination bill?

Posted by Local_Fill6337@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 31 comments

Yeorge@reddit

Yeah I was with Virgin for my internet and had like two years left so it had a hefty (~£180) termination fee. I had been waiting for a local provider to install fibre into the area for years. Anyway, I got a notification that the fttp is now available from this other company and that week received a letter from Virgin that they’re putting my price up and if I respond by cancelling within 14 days of that letter there are no early termination fees. Great win. Especially as the fttp was about £20 cheaper p/m

It goes both ways.. having gained a lot of muscle and toned up over the last year, more women appear to find me attractive (I.e. doing ‘better’ on dating apps) TLDR the human race are attracted to more objectively fit humans.

Why is food bank usage so high even if in decent paying job?

Posted by Desperate-Drawer-572@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 460 comments

Yeorge@reddit

"They have a mortgage and three cars and together earn around £80,000 a year." and "My eldest son has started driving, which has then had an impact on my daughter's horse-riding lessons." Wages have stagnated hiddeously since 2009, and people *are* worse off nowadays than before, and therefore some family even on *ok* salaries may still need to suppliment their budgets by using a food bank. But some people just dont have their priorities straight, it's easier and cheaper than ever to get into a finance agreement on a car, or use buy-now pay-later schemes and some people are just not financially literate enough to know they can't afford it as well as doing a *normal* weekly shop and going on holiday(s). I think in a lot of cases of people on decent wages but using a food bank is down to their own idiocracy or selfishness.

Can you still make money flipping homes?

Yeah hence the ‘with the funds available’ a bridging loan is the same as having the cash to hand, but obviously you need to pay it back with interest

Can you still make money flipping homes?

Posted by Affectionate_Top5544@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 9 comments

Yeorge@reddit

The reason Homes Under The Hammer is so profitable is as you said, property bought at auction. If a property is sold at auction it’s usually because it’s un-mortgageable. Whether that be a short leasehold, a dire state of repairs or the seller just wants a quick cash sale. Where there’s risk, there’s investment. You need to have the cash amount in order to buy at auction, and so those investors with the funds available can capitalise on it and buy a ‘cheap’ asset. Not to say that everyone who buys at auction will see the 14% yields some get on HUTH

Gousto was good, if you want to learn to cook it’s a great way to do it. If you’re not that experienced with cooking I suggest adding like 20 mins onto the cooking time. But also gousto has their recipes online (gousto cookbook) so once you get ok at cooking you can just use the website and buy from a supermarket

I’ve had at least three encounters, and a few flashes of the blue lights, not had a bad encounter. If you’re an honest, reasonable and polite member of the public they’ll deal with you accordingly. And yes I was breaking the law on each occasion. No further action happened. I do not have a criminal record.
