Is it common for people who are born in the UK to say they are “Irish” or “Italian” if they have a parent from there?

Did anyone just about get used to new absurd UK restaurant prices, to find that the price has once again gone up almost 20% in the last year?

I haven’t really noticed for various reasons, but last night it reared its ugly head. Dinner for 2 last night was £82, and we ate - X2 starters X2 burgers X1 side of coleslaw X2 soft drinks The food was good, but this was at a small market town in the arse end of Wiltshire. I couldn’t help but complain to the manager who happened to be serving us and he said “so, that’ll be no tip for us then?” 😂

Those of you that earn over 40k, can work from home sometimes, and have a good work life balance what job do you have and how can someone start?

No, I’m based in Bristol and work for a local company. The network is unbelievably complex, which is why the salary is so high. When I first started in networking I was on 38k, so your company is pulling your pants down, especially as you’re in London imho

Network engineer, almost entirely remote. 65-70k, with 6 years of experience. It’s a complicated job, sometimes the challenge feels daunting and overwhelming, but I like my salary and pension more than the mental pain it causes me sometimes.

Have people stopped bothering to dip their headlights for oncoming traffic recently?

I said exactly the same thing tonight to my gf while driving home. I had to flash most cars to dip their headlights tonight, apart from own muppet who was either too stupid to realise their full beams were on, or so arrogant they didn’t care. I flashed twice, before turning on my main beams, fog lights and led light bar. I lit the road up like it was daytime. I could see every single one of the passengers clear as day in their car, and only then they dipped their full beams. 😆

Does it bother you when someone drives the speed limit?

This is a regular and not a new occurrence. The majority of drivers can’t just a safe distance from the car in front, but absolutely hate it when someone does it back to them. I once car shared with a colleague who tailgated everyone and then went apocalyptic when someone dared to get a bit too close to his bumper. My fav thing to do when I’m on my motorbike and being tailgated, is to turn around and make the “shoo” motion with my hand. It works a treat and sometimes I get an apology 😂

Who else who works in tech feels overwhelmed?

Wireless25@reddit

Oh boy, I feel the same. I also work in IT but in networks. Some of my colleagues are SO passionate about tech and constantly come up with new fandango ways of doing stuff. I’m there just for the money and good pension, I couldn’t give a toss about the new tech in my industry. It’s boring AF, but they absolutely eat it up. Yeah, it’s probably time for a break or change of career, but tech salaries are good and I want to retire as early as possible 😆.

People who grew up without a dad – were there moments where a father figure would’ve helped?

Hi OP I also grew up without having a dad around, and like you, my mum was fantastic. But she just couldn’t control me. I desperately needed a male influence, and craved doing cool dad stuff, like building a go-kart. I have since apologised to my mum, and, now I have my first child on his way in a matter of weeks. I can’t wait to always be there for my little dude. Every sports day, going to the park, kicking a ball around, basically, everything I missed out on. I’m probably sharing too much, but, lately I’ve been having waves of emotions that I haven’t felt since I was a child. The feeling of being lost is my main emotion, and I never want my child to feel like that, it’s just awful. Out of interest, what books have you been reading? I feel your pain OP.

V8 or V10 engines coming back to F1 thanks to the investment in sustainable fuels. The turbo charged V6’s can get in the bin. My Shark hoover sounds better than they do 😆
