What do you fellow GenX ers think about kids going no contact with their parents?

Posted by FabulousChicken1992@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 1021 comments

VediusPollio@reddit

I often find it difficult to side with the kids. Of course it's sometimes reasonable/deserved, but in many cases I've come seen, the kids come across as too headstrong and bratty. Society (Redditors) frequently advise wrecking relationships over the most trivial or temporary matters, and that has become high on the options list for handling adversity for many. That's an easier escape than looking inward, and considering personal faults, compromise, or just acceptance to keep peace with those that love you most.

I demoed how to stop drop and roll for my entire elementary class, so they could all learn how to survive after being caught on fire. It was a real concern.

VediusPollio@reddit

That can't be right. What other reason could there be to fly a drone, other than to spy on OP's wife and kids? It's probably a human trafficker from Russia, or maybe a pervert from the future with an advanced pervert nighttime zoom camera.

White Americans with black hair and brown eyes, have you ever been mistaken for Latinos?

Posted by AdCurious2371@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 1010 comments

VediusPollio@reddit

The 'latino' side of my family were English folk that migrated to Mexico in the late 1800s. I had quite a few blonde hair blue eyed relatives that lived in Mexico.

Hey GenX-ers - where are you, technology-wise?

Posted by himateo@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 412 comments

VediusPollio@reddit

I do audiovisual work on an exhibits team. I love all the tech I get to play with, and am always searching for new, innovative ways to use tech in our projects. It really is interesting work. That said, more tech means more complexity and more potential points of failure. I'm constantly tending to some buggy equipment. That seriously gets old, and someday I might just turn my back on it and embrace Luddism. I do have a nice garden and collection of plants. They call to me every work day.

What do you think is the most beautiful American city?

Posted by rickmasters1@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 473 comments

VediusPollio@reddit

But it does, imo. I went to Seattle for the first time a few months ago. Beautiful city, but everywhere I looked had tents, trash, and homeless people impersonating crack smoking zombies with their pants at their ankles. Sure, it's worse in touristy areas, but that's not exactly a great first impression for a new tourist. Bummer because I've always had a great impression of Seattle in my head, and thought that might be the place for me. My imagination never included homeless peeners, the smell of piss, and clouds of drug smoke to walk my family through. Now it just seems like the place to go if I ever want to give up on life.

What are some foods you wish America was better known for?

Posted by appleparkfive@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 339 comments

I suppose that's often true, but I've had it plenty of times with shrimp or crawfish mixed in. I'm not saying I won't eat it either way, but it's lower down the list of my preferred Cajun dishes.

I'm from the region. Jambalaya is ok, but too many different types of dead things mixed together for my palate. My top 3 in order: Chicken sausage gumbo, red beans and rice, and shrimp Creole. Home cooked ftw.
