Microsoft 365 Exchange Mailbox issue you should be aware of

Ngl other theories I have / had are some hackers are using a vulnerability in the servers to cause issues or that Russia, North Korea, Iran or China were attacking the under sea cables or using something that is on the microsoft servers that triggers those issues. BUT those are just wild theories spun by my crazy autistic brain. Anyway. sucks that it's on Microsoft and that there are no easy to implement EU or open source alternatives out there yet.

Alert was probably delayed due to their own servers having this delay sending issue xD starting to laugh my ass off cause there's no point in crying over the fact that they have too much power over our stuff

Sounds good. I know from 2013 (when the wanna be iPad suckers came out) you HAD to install the firmware, before any of the features like touchscreen, type cover port, or other would work. I don't remember exactly but it needed the firmware. Similar to Apple requiring the Apple Drivers on Windows to connect to the hotspot via cable or wifi. While Android just allows you to connect. Like why not just allow basic unoptimized access to get the right drivers and stuff. -\_-

Yeah my attempts yesterday have drained my motivation battery hard. So today I focused on my rant and other projects. In a way, just another day at work. Getting frustrated, continue with other tasks, Get back when I had time to think more or get some ideas.

Will give it a try next time to verify. Honestly I haven't worked much with BitLocker so I have to agree that some of my fact might be wrong. But so far I wouldn't be surprised if booting from a linux boot stick on the same device would allow you to access the bitlocked files.

Thank you very much, will give it a try when I'm in the mood and finished some other projects. But this also just supports my rant because it's such an obscure thing that you cannot even find it on good or it's not easy to find in the Microsoft docs. Microsoft might make some good products but they are making too many different versions and are not clear enough with their troubleshooting. I'll let you know if it worked but I hope it's not coming with too much crap ware.

Isn't bitlocker checking the TPM is present? Also since you cannot set a pin, bitlocker would be stupid to ask for an undefined pin and lock the disk. Afaik it only checks "is TPM XYZ present" if yes, welcome, if not, good bye I'm locked

Well that particular customer wouldn't mind a DIY solution but it shouldn't look like it had a fight with a cat, raccoon and other wild animals before it was duct taped together. But the switch doesn't have a place to hang from and that box should be as flat as possible to allow other racks to still open. For example the main network rack from the provider would be blocked if it was possible to put the cube next to it. But overall there is not much wall space remaining overall. That thermostat lock box might however be an interesting candidate if I can find something like that here in Europe.

Sadly it's for a customer. But their small room doesn't have much space especially if it's sticking out. To put it mildly you will struggle to put 4-5 grown man in the space without it being cramped.

Explain to me like I’m 5, why this is a bad idea…

OP? Are you in a position where you can risk losing your job? If so, let the shit hit the fan. Make sure your boss confirms that decission to you in writting via email or something. Then store that in a safe place where it cannot be destroyed or deleted. USB stick or somewhere at home. Then do what your boss says and let the shit hit the fan hard and make it clear that it's the decission if your boss and you argued your case to avoid the situation that is going to happen because of it. I bet he also want you to use a password like supersecure123abc. Or something stupid like that

Usually I also tell people if it's a paypal mail go to paypal.com and login. If what they show is really then you should see it there too but don't use the links from the mail. Or hover over the links. Well apple's mail and the outlook app hate us all and replace the links with a "safe" link. What utter rubbish

Show him how you solved it and maybe he xan accept that you just either got lucky on solving it or that sometimes people just think different enough that the issue was solved immediately. Sometimes people with 0 experience on a tool give me the hint that is needed to solve issues I got stuck on for a long time

And then every time Microsoft updates something you pray that it's not screwing your whole system. And if you are in Azure AD it's hoping that Microsoft would even let you know when they make changes.

For those work in IT, do you have Daily meetings to report your progress on tasks and projects?

Posted by Mysterious_Teach8279@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 216 comments

VarmintLP@reddit

Go to whoever organized those meetings' boss and ask them if it's normal to spend 2,5+ hours each week in a meeting for progress. Remind him that if it's 15 people that comes to a monthy cost of 6,6k euro or dollar or whatever if every one of them earns 20 bucks per hour. Or more dramatic 79,2k €/$/whatever each year. Paint it as a cost saving idea that a meeting should be maybe once per week or once every 2 weeks to reduce that time. Also it doesn't include the time everyone spends to get to the meeting room and waiting for everyone to arrive. I am sure that guy's boss is not going to like that amount of money wasted since it's money that could be put into other project like his dinners with clients. xD

It is absolute bullshit that certifications expire.

No no no schools should adopt this. The math you learned in 1st grade about 1+1 is 2 and 2+2 is 4 can expire and then you forget everything by the time you reach 6th grade.

Well they could do that japanese or chinese art of glueing something together with gold. It highlights the cracks but gives it an interesting look. It could also go with a matching cast and bandages for a few months to match the recovery process somewhat. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ

How do I deal with an under performing co-worker?

Posted by Patient-Progress-340@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 161 comments

VarmintLP@reddit

Tell your manager about these issues and for how long you are having them. Then tell them that you want someone more competent and motivated to be your backup. If they don't want to get ride of the guy then they should try to work with him for a month and get themself a picture. Also try including your manager in email chains so he can see for himself how often you remind him and the steps you take to try and make the guy work. Basically show proof you tried and that the guy is incompetent / lazy.

This should be illegal. Surely it contravenes the EU legislation?

I don't say you should I just lay out the the options. Also only having it on a few customer systems that must not restart because Microsoft decides this one update MUST be installed right now and it just restarts everything which messes things up. I'd rather close and save everything necessary and do it manually once a month or so

Not mine but some people in germany or luxembourg like to prank / trick the newbies but to also teach them not to beleave everything immediately and be less naive. How? Well, they ask their disciples to fetch them a box of "blaues auge" / black eyes. - This should teach them to ask what those are if they don't know. Also normally the guy in the storage will be nice enough to not punch them. Well nowadays it's also for legal reasons. Or can you go pick up a box at the store across town? When the guy leaves the guy calles the store and asks the guy to put a few heavy things or bricks in a box and hand it to the guy. Then the guy carries it back. - This should teach them to think if they need something to transport the box. Like a car or a pully wagon. Or it fails and they just hate their boss for a while
