Some form of juice mixed with diet lemonade. I had cranberry and raspberry lemonade the other night and it was very refreshing.

Always had a gas hob at home. Moved to shared accommodation for my job and had several years of an induction hob. Absolutely hated it. I was so happy when I moved out to a place that had a gas hob again.

Who is having 10 minute conversations with the GP receptionist?

Sorchya@reddit

People like my mum who's on multiple medications and it can be an absolute nightmare when it comes to reordering them because one doctor has said one thing but it's not the doctor who's in charge of prescription for that day. She asked for an inhaler a few weeks ago and they sent a load of Gabapentin instead so that was another phone call. God forbid she tries to do everything in one go but it's a couple of days early for one prescription so that gets cancelled which means everything gets cancelled so another phone call.

What do you actually think of the concept of 15-minute cities?

Honestly Horwich is a good example of this. You've got all the local shops like a butcher's etc but there's a big super market within 15 minutes. I'd love to move up that way.

How do general working people afford pet care?

Posted by ajfromuk@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 476 comments

Sorchya@reddit

So my chihuahua has currently cost close to 13k in vet bills. I pay a decent premium for her and my other dog but currently I'm winning on the pay out versus the pay in. You buy an expensive breed like a pug then they come with vet bills but if you sat and watched them for a couple of days then yeah it's going to be expensive because xrays in dogs generally involve anaesthetic

Is it now at a sustainable rate? Many cats will still hunt despite being well fed. Cats are in an unique position of that particular species but we don't hunt them despite the proffence it could bring to much older native species

I'd rather do the direct than worrying my luggage was lost in the transfer. So long as I can get some sleep and I can take my knitting I'll be grand.

Would you confront someone for unleashing their dog in a kids playground?

Sorchya@reddit

I would have punted her dog into next week. I follow my mates who have children to the outside of the play area then I take my dogs for a walk while the kids play. Depending on where we are the dogs are in lead or in a secure bolted area while the kids play. If the areas aren't available then it's an excellent opportunity to do some on lead training

Is it common for British people to keep doors closed between rooms in their house?

Posted by Zealousideal_Ad_8736@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 811 comments

Sorchya@reddit

Generally if you leave a door open then you'll get a comment of born in a barn but it also does have practical functions. My house is a 2 up 2 down so when I have the washer or dryer on in the kitchen the door between the kitchen and living room is shut otherwise all you can hear is the washer or dryer. The hallway door is shut if we don't want a draft but also left ajar if we do want a draft for cooling. This also goes to absolute nonsense depending on what the dogs want. Sometimes my chihuahua will open the hallway door just to look into the hallway then gets back on the sofa. I will shut a door just for a dog to headbutt it open 2 minutes later.

Drying dishes - is it good practice or an utter waste of time?

Do you always leave the front door locked, even when home and awake??

Posted by Cat-guy64@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1019 comments

Personally our front door is unlocked from when someone leaves the house in the morning until the last person goes to bed. We have dogs who will kick off massively if a stranger tries to come in between those times.

What do you think when people say mental health is no excuse not to work?

Posted by cloumorgan@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 67 comments

Sorchya@reddit

There are plenty of physical illnesses this would also apply to. What happened to people suffering from them back in the times you've referenced? They died. If people just got on with it back in the day then bedlam wouldn't be in the vernacular. Even a simple example like the fact I rely on glasses to see properly. Go back enough and that was a life threatening disability. Mental illness is just as severe as a physical illness. Just because you can't see a physical symptom like a limp doesn't make it less so

Do you think Greggs has Destroyed British Bakeries?

Posted by DarthKrataa@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1158 comments

I think it depends where you are. Round me Greggs has strong competition from the likes of Carrs and once you move away from big central locations like Manchester etc the smaller bakeries seem to do quite well still.

Garlic. I know it's an old wives tale but back when I worked with horses we got bitten to death by horse flies. If I upped my garlic intake during that season I didn't get bitten, I let it lapse then cue the horrible bites.

If you’ve ever witnessed a crime and decided to ‘unsee it’—why?

Posted by gawpin@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 627 comments

Sorchya@reddit

For personal inconvenience, wish I'd not given an official statement about a crime I saw. It's a minor crime but they've pled not guilty and now I have to travel into a major city at rush hour for the trial start time and I may not be called at all. I have so much crap in my own life at the moment and the only reason I agreed to it was because the police said it would be months before it went to trial. It's been a month and we're going to trial. I don't even like the people I'm testifying in favour of.

I buy bags of fresh diced onions and freeze them because 1) they've been better quality than being frozen and 2) pre diced means it's one less job I have do as a carer when I'm the only one cooking and cleaning.
