Why is racing to the bottom so accepted in British culture?

I think if a salary cannot allow someone to rent a 1 bed flat by themselves and cover basic living costs for the month, then it's a serious problem.

Adults with Unmedicated ADHD — How Are You Managing?

I seriously think you should look into the medication route. I had to because my mental health deteriorated in my 20s and I was struggling hard to function normally. I went private with MyPace because NHS waiting times are insane. Since then I take Elvanse and whilst it has a few issues the positives massively outweigh the negatives in my opinion. My anxiety and depression are much better. It's a lot calmer in my head and I can get things done. It hasn't changed who I am at all, just made me better at dealing with everything. Just now I made an important phone call. That sounds silly to most people but for me it's anxiety inducing and I would actively avoid it before.

Groups of people who walk side by side, taking up the whole path and then ***not moving*** out of the way as you walk towards them. Bonus if it's a group of mums with their prams. Fucking move you pricks.

Yesterday a woman just stopped in front of me and a dad with a pram to put her jumper on. She saw us coming when she crossed the road. No awareness whatsoever.

Out of all the stories in this thread, this one is the most bizarre to me. I have so many questions. Why did you put up with this and why wasn't the police more involved?

Currently have someone at work in a different department. He's been here a few years but still doesn't know the basics and every time I see him he's either playing Pool or on his phone. He constantly does things wrong, tests the wrong thing, deletes things he's not supposed to and takes way too long to complete tasks assigned to him despite clear deadlines. How he got star of the month last month I don't know.

When other countries in the world pay much less to watch every Football match broadcasted whilst we sit here paying a ridiculous amount to get maybe half of the games? I'd say yeah, Sky and greed fucked it.

My 14 year old son just found out his friends made plans without him. He's acting fine, but I can tell he's cut up about it. Is there anything I can do?

This is a harsh life lesson I'm afraid. I've been there. Had a group of work friends I was close with for 2 years, until they all started doing things without me. I made the effort to go see them when I left that job but I never felt it was reciprocated. Eventually I stopped and that was it. Didn't hear from them.

Is buying a girl a drink at a pub a 'date'?

Posted by Square_Possession_73@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 248 comments

SinofThrash@reddit

I went to a pub for dinner with a few colleagues after work once and there was this girl who didn't have any money on her, so I offered to buy her dinner as a kind gesture. She accepted. Next day she told everyone at work I was hitting on her and she wasn't interested. Baffling.

What's the most shocking/awful thing you've seen happen in a pub/club?

Posted by throughthisironsky@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 873 comments

SinofThrash@reddit

Not the most shocking but one I remember well. In a pub heading to the back garden with a few mates. Guy walks past and compliments my glasses. Alright, bit weird. Comes outside a few moments later and we start chatting. Turns out he was genuine. Lovely chap. Goes back inside. Not 30 seconds later, I finish my drink and head inside to grab another when I see him punch a guy square in the head before being immediately restrained by 2 other guys. He starts shouting "I'LL FUCKING KILL YOU" over and over. The other guy is just barely conscious at this point. What the fuck is going on? I get my pint and go back outside. He comes outside with his wife about 20 minutes later and starts apologising. Said the other guy said something and wound him up to the point where it turned violent. Other guy got chucked out. Madness.

Redditors of Ask UK. Are You Currently on a Diet?

Posted by Sadlamp1234@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 536 comments

SinofThrash@reddit

Yes. It's all to do with calories in, calories out. As long as you are in a calorie deficit you will lose weight. Eat nutritious, filling and low calorie meals so you're not hungry all day and your body is getting everything it needs. Don't be afraid to season your food either! Best way to do it is to calculate your TDEE (total daily energy expenditure) which tells you roughly what your daily calorie intake should be if you want to maintain your current weight. Then subtract 500 calories from it to put yourself in a healthy deficit to lose weight. Losing 1-2lbs a week is considered best to avoid muscle loss/gallstones etc. Exercise/working out also helps with fat loss.

Do we consider Indian food to be ‘fast food’?

Posted by pcfreak92@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 324 comments

SinofThrash@reddit

Whilst writing my answer, I realised that it entirely depends on the context. Fast Food implies the food is cooked and/or ready to go within 5-10 minutes. So yes technically you can apply fast food to Indian/Chinese takeaway type establishments, who will have batch cooked their meals to heat up when someone makes an order. However, I typically apply fast food to burgers/chicken/fish & chips/kebab kinda places. If you want something it's either already cooked or able to be made within 10 minutes.

Have you disclosed your mental health issues to your manager?

Posted by lifeafterdark_@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 51 comments

SinofThrash@reddit

I actually have and he is a great manager. I can literally insult him in a jokey way and he will insult me back in his own jokey way. We can banter but when work gets serious we can both understand each other. He's seen me in some huge pits in my time but recently I was able to take charge of a big problematic situation and I loved every second. I finally had my plan, my decisions, being taken seriously by everyone so I went to him and demanded that I do this in future for all projects my department deal with and since then I now have control over the whole thing.

Once I was on the train to work at 8am and there was this burly ginger chav guy on the train talking very loudly about how much money he's making from dealing. Mentioned his kid a few times as well. It never ceases to amaze me how thick some people are.

Honestly, what can you do? Nothing stops these dickheads. Terrible parenting. Terrible youth culture. Can't stand up to them because they're protected by law or other cunts. Police won't do shit until they physically harm someone.
