1st & 2nd time I had that procedure they gave me the GOOD stuff. 3rd time they just gave me enough to be somewhat aware but not really aware. I think that's their NEW way of doing it because recovery time is faster--you wake up & don't have any fogginess.

I use one for paying my life insurance still-haha! That's my only bill I never set up to be on line, just couldn't be bothered for once a year payment. Also I always need it for getting my routing number & stuff for setting up on line accounts. Also, I used to balance my checkbook :)

Who do I need to be a fiscally responsible adult?

I don't think you need a financial advisor PER SE, but a bank wealth management service for FREE where they basically put all your info into a system & tell you how you are doing & ways to improve...but at the end of the meeting it is all free--they are trying to sell you into paying the 1% fee to have them handle some of your investments, but you don't have to proceed with that. It will give you an idea of where you stand. Personally I think you are doing AMAZING! (By the end of the free meeting you will know better what you need to do--and you will feel more confident to dig into the things yourself)

Our malls in Seattle (north & south of Seattle) are ALWAYS busy!! It's thriving here. When people say where they live there are dead malls or crime ridden...it's insane to me. These places are PACKED here!

Teen caught smoking pot

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

Maybe you need to make it SUPER CRINGE to smoke pot & they won't want to do it. Show them super losers who smoke too much pot & do nothing with their lives & maybe they will come to their own conclusion? I know for me, seeing my sister & her friends doing it & being TOTAL losers made me stay away from drugs.

Don't even get me STARTED on those old style McDonald's apple pies! I miss them so much! I'd add "TV DINNERS" --I can remember the apple cobbler in the corner compartment on those & the Salsbury steak, and also steakums and jello pudding pops!!

When did GenX start to identify as GenX?

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

I saw a Adam Ruins Everything episode, I believe, that talked about this. Essentially his hypothesis was that once we hit the 2000s, then there wasn't as much SHARED experiences, because as we moved towards more & more online and into streaming, people could watch, listen to, etc whatever THEY wanted. So then it was hard to put a finger on what each of the decades represented, so things shifted into talking about groups as "generations" and those labels stuck vs defining decades.

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

I don't get it personally, because I dreamed about moving out & getting an apartment from the age of 13-14. Even if my plans then were unrealistic, it was always a goal. Once I turned 18 & graduated highschool, I was looking for apartments. And my family is chill & non-toxic, so there wasn't a "reason" to move out, I just always wanted to "start my own life" basically. Why don't people want that--it's really weird to me.

Wondering if indifference to and irritation from corporate acronyms and c-suite idolization is a GenX trait.

Posted by -Granby-@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 337 comments

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

Worst job was working on the "monoline" which was a robot operated manufacturing line that made cds and LITERALLY my job was to watch the CDs come down the line & restack them when it got full, and make sure ink was in the screen for printing--but in general, NOTHING but that to do for HOURS AND HOURS. it was AWFUL! Also the acetone I had to work with gave me migraines!

Good way to spend your PTO

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

STAYCATION!! those are great! 1st off: you aren't stressing about travel (catching flights/transferring/finding your hotel that actually looks worse in person than on line, etc). 2nd : you aren't spending TONS of money. It's very relaxing to stay home, enjoy what you have & if you want an adventure--find things around where you live to have experiences.

I found nothing that describes it better then what Tyler Durden said

Funny that you posted this--I think I've outgrown this movie & sentiment within this movie. We just recently (in the past month) rewatched it & put the DVD on our pile to sell to 1/2 price books. It just doesn't "fit" me anymore...

Anybody tell their doctor that they don't give a fuh about living longer, so you're not going to try to radically change your diet or go on meds?

Posted by IHadTacosYesterday@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 1354 comments

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

I think the thing is not living longer, but while you are here not having medical issues. So, if they suggest a statin, blood pressure meds...it's not a big deal, just freakin take the drug. If you don't want to change your diet, don't. But if they have little tiny pills you can take that are going to help counteract issues, might as well :)

What do you call your music media?

Posted by Infinite-Lychee-182@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 50 comments

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

I call my music "records" (even if it's a tape or cd...for instance, "OH! I have that Cure record!" and then I'll add "I think I had it on Tape or CD". All the things together (Tapes/CDs, DVDs etc) I will call physical media.

What were some urban legends that you believed in as a kid?

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

I actually found a straight pin hidden inside a tootsie roll in my halloween candy. I pulled it out, cause I saw the end sticking out & thought it might be drugs (the top of straight pins are bright colored, I think this one was blue or red). It was 100% put there by my hillbilly neighbor's hoard of kids probably thinking it would be funny. I HOPE I was the only victim of that, since I actually FOUND it before eating it!

Welp it happened

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

It's really weird when growing up MJ was ubiquitous. I think because of the controversies with him, a lot of people stepped away and just wouldn't touch his music with a 10 foot pole (so it didn't get picked up in the types of playlists you hear in public spaces (grocery store, amusement parks, etc), people just don't hear it now.

GenX peeps. You're going to a concert for a band you love. Do you wear that band's t-shirt to the concert?

Posted by bigpilague@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 1173 comments

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

Depends. I will sometimes wear "the thing to the thing" but also sometimes I just want to wear a cute outfit, and if the shirt doesn't go with my outfit I won't.

Retire now or try a little longer

Posted by CherryChipwich@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 386 comments

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

I mean, if you enjoy working, keep working--it's social, you have $ so you won't get stressed. I wouldn't retire just cause the world says so. Also, if you just want to go work at a bookstore or cafe or whatever you could totally do that too. You are in a good situation where you aren't stressed about the money--work would just be something to do & a place to have some social interactions.

Get one of those password books, if they don't have one (like an address book), and start putting the passwords in there. And get a binder & just make a list "all the bills you pay per month, who to & account numbers", etc. I did this myself & have sections in the binder for my will/living trust, life insurance, etc. It's probably all around there, just convince him to gather it into one place

I think it's worse when you mention a date out loud & people go "OH, I was in kindergarten that year" or "I wasn't even born yet". That is rough. But I always think "yeah...laugh now little children, I remember being the youngest person in the office & it wasn't THAT long ago--time flies, you will be the oldest person sooner than you think" :)

Why GenZ'ers love the 80s?

Posted by WachuQuedes@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 199 comments

SOmuchCUTENESS@reddit

I think there is a HUGE trend for these kids to romanticize the 80s cause we had a lot of freedom, no internet--it was TOTALLY a different time (also Stranger Things probably made this appealing to them too)
