>my technology team no longer has a buffer to keep end users from walking up and asking whatever they want when they want This is the real issue. You can no longer avoid work. This is why it was done I assure you. I've seen this so many times. You now have to do your job and cooperate. They would have had a huge gut laugh at your argument that your work must remain top secret. I'd encourage you to engage your userbase or they'll start to purge.

32 GiB. Just specced out several hundred. This is simply to account for bloat. Nothing more. You might even get a decrease in performance over time on top of this as the overall ecosystem becomes more and more decadent.

I feel you. Someone didn't like my variable names so refused my commit. They kept asking me to think of new ones over and over. Eventually I asked them to just pick one. Anything is fine by me.

This is usually because there is some incredibly awkward diplomatic/political angle to the problem. It's not about skill, it's about unfortunate realities surrounding the problem. That you don't/can't discuss with someone as soon as they start. Just my two pence. I could be wrong.

Aye. We ordered three performance systems with a tight timeline. They literally just forgot about it. A few days before the deadline we called them and asked where they were. Their response was just: "Donno lol"

>The biggest catch for me was that almost all of the people who were let go worked in IT Security in some fashion. Why in the world did they not realize/care that their chats were audited? If you're going to work a secret drug ring, why not at LEAST do it on your personal phone? Security techs taking amphetamines isn't surprising. They don't bother because security is a shit show. If logging and investigation was in any way effective you'd have to incarcerate the majority of society at this point.

"But at the same time it worries me that it might be a sign of you just thinking that your way is special." The Linux community has not changed in decades. From a professionalism perspective they're still banging rocks together in the gutter.

>They maintain a cgit instance and as you can see, they are tagging releases there. GH just doesn't show them as releases because of how they've chosen to design GH (i.e to not assume all tags are releases). Github is wrong. Change the entirety of Github to suit the kernel. This in a nutshell fully encapsulates the Linux design ethos. Thanks for your response. Gave me a good gut laugh at the end of the day. It's the most Linus response I could have asked for.

You'll struggle to find a changelog anywhere. I'm surprised they even use Git. They do use it however Linus doesn't put the releases in the release section so you have to manually check to find out if it's updated. This in a nutshell fully encapsulates the Linux design ethos.

They don't want to help you, they want to avoid you breaking their code and then annoying them about it. It's 2023 and for most of the Linux OS it's still the 80's. "Stagnant" is not a strong enough word.

I love how they randomly shapeshift the OS file paths around you. Just to keep you on your toes. It's 2023 and honestly on this front almost zero progress has been made. They've just moved things around a lot.
