Wife and I were having a discussion, she’s of the opinion that the majority of GenX can drive stick. I believe that even in our generation the percentage of people who can is pretty small. What do you folks think?

I, like the op, am a baby of Gen X (turning 46 tomorrow) and I’m tired just imagining being pregnant and having a newborn at this age. Best wishes for a healthy pregnancy to her though!

Gosh I’m glad to read this bc I feel the absolute same way. I don’t know if it’s another damn birthday coming up or seasonal shit but I’m finding myself mired in regrets lately. Divorced two years ago (zero regrets there) but have made poor financial decisions since then and can’t get out of the cycle of beating myself up about it. You’re spot on about the American Dream. What a ripoff.

Name a scary movie from your youth that had you hiding under your covers but now you look laugh at yourself.

I live in TX so it’s 80° out currently, but when the temps do eventually drop I’m 100% team bundle up. I hate running the heat - it dries out my skin and is hell on the houseplants. It has to be below 50 out for me to finally give in.

45f here and thankful every day I decided against children. I’ve got nieces and nephews that I love and work in public education, but nothing beats coming home to a quiet & clean house.

2003 here - very simple dresses & decorations, the church we used had gorgeous stained glass windows and didn’t need much else. Simple, buffet reception & Did goldfish in bowls for our centerpieces and sent them home with guests. Burned CDs for favors :)

Love this. My parents are in their 70’s and I still tell them regularly that they get more done before 10 am than most people do all day. Going up this weekend to spend time with them and already anxious because I always come home wore out trying to keep up with them.

I feel this. I asked my 13 yo nephew the other day who his favorite band was / what kind of music he liked to listen to. He couldn’t answer the question. He doesn’t listen to music. Like at all. Makes me sad because I still listen to music all day long, all genres. I work with middle-schoolers, and they will know 45 second clips of songs from TikTok, but that’s about it.

Who else hated summer in the 80's?

ReputationCold2765@reddit

When I was young, we lived out in the literal sticks - like a mile to the closest neighbor and nobody else had kids. Mom and dad certainly weren’t driving us 20 miles into ‘town’ for playdates. I hated summer and was always the kids who go so excited to go back to school to see someone other than my siblings.

I live on the west side of Houston, but grew up on the east side near the ship channels & refineries. Every time I drive east there’s a specific point on I-10 where I crack the windows because the specific refinery smell transports me back to 8 years old again. I hope it never goes away.

Amen to this! I don’t expect a hand written note, because apparently going to the post office is traumatic for some, but a text or call to at least acknowledge receipt of a gift should be the absolute bare minimum.
