You are perfectly welcome to give up, while I am perfectly free to nudge against the nibbling away of our own language. "Use it or lose it" here means "use it properly now or regret it later - when it's reduced to a Babel where one person can't understand the next, though both claim to be using the same language.

I hate owning a tractor. This is the worst.

A TRACTOR? It's like a big lawn mower! There are tractors 70 years old that still run well. There's not that much that can go wrong. If they've made tractors so complicated they're hard to fix correctly today it's a sign you should be looking to buy some old tractors. And I'm a really old guy, so I could be very wrong. But making machines so complex no one can fix them correctly DEFINITELY indicates people should be circumspect about buying their high-priced, high-maintenance crap! They wouldn't make them if people weren't buying them.

A message for my fellow day cab drivers, dress for the breakdown not the drive.

Just curious, at what point do you North Americans ‘shut down’?

A friend of mine once lived in Atlanta, and she said she was driving on the freeway one afternoon and it started snowing, and everyone just stopped, got out, locked their vehicles and started walking....

I spotted this tonight at the TA in London, OH

Missed a bridge height sign before turning, saw the second and pulled over, called police. Trooper gave me a ticket for missing the sign and failing to put triangles out.

Thank you! When I was living in Taos I called out my electric power co-op for flying a tattered NM flag that wasn't half as bad as that one! And they thanked me and replaced it right away!

The great hurricane of 1935 is generally regarded as the absolute unchallenged biggest to ever hit the U.S., but I remember Camille in 1969 that hit the mountains and piedmont of Virginia, the worst of it in the wee hours of the morning. At that time rural, mountainous counties such as Albemarle, Nelson and a couple others received over 19 inches of rain in one single HOUR!! I was in Richmond then, but the horror was widely written about. I am not sure an accurate death toll was ever arrived at, but it was truly awful. Sleeping families had their homes SMASHED off the foundations, and were eventually carried into the James and the Bay, Atlantic and God knows where else. Around the fall line in Richmond one could see parts of homes and cattle carcasses being swept by. The area was without potable water for days when the city water treatment and sewage treatment facilities were both inundated. A couple marinas on the river downtown I was familiar with downtown vanished, along with their swimming pools. As for drinking water, the Virginia National Guard was dispensing potable water at staging points in clear plastic soft bags reading something like WATER, DRINKING blah blah blah. For 4 or 5 days, at least. I kept the empty bags for a couple decades, but I lost track of 'em eventually. Doubtless Helena will soon be taking her place near the top, but I wonder how Katrina will rank? 2005, correct?

Honestly If you.
