He toured awhile ago with the Lost 80s tour and he was phenomenal. Literally just him and his equipment and he basically gave a class on how he layers everything on She Blinded me With Science. Fantastic show, also saw Berlin and A flock of Seagulls and the I wanna Be A Cowboy guy. It really was a one to two hit only wondershow, and Berlin.

VOR required for IFR certified aircraft?

King 76? It's not ADB-S out. OP should also have a SkyBeacon on the left wing tip, or something that converts XPNDR + ADB-S to an output signal. OP might want to make sure that your plane is compliant with ADB-S rules and read the manual on it. SkyBeacon is pretty much set it and go, but it you want to be anonymous or change some parameter of it's operation you need to know how to connect to it's wifi to make these changes.

Easiest Airport to Access Chicago via GA?

I've flown in to LOT many times in my Cherokee. The only downside is no mechanics at the field. I had an issue once and the guys over at JOT were really helpful on the phone and after I got airborne even tracked me to my fuel stop in MO and checked in. I will probably land at JOT next time but LOT is a nice airport. I have landed at Clow before. The corn was level with the top of the plane on both sides of the runway, was pretty neat. I would have loved to get a video of my TO from the POV of the FBO because I'm thinking it would have looked like a plane just took off from the middle of a corn field.

My four year old grandsons go to jam is the Brownsville mix of Istanbul ( Not Constantinople). I listened to Flood and Lincoln on tape in highschool in the late 80s. But my kids know them as those guys who sing those educational songs. Three generations have been entertained and taught by these guys. The only other artist I can compare them with is Weird Al. If you only casually listen you easily can dismiss their works as simple or novelty but there's a depth and intelligence beyond the surface.

This one photo will cause an entire generation to realize their visual of the opening line of a classic rock song was totally incorrect.

I saw this line-up at Winstar Casino in OK last year. The lead singer of Blues Traveler was out sick and the singer from the Spin Doctors covered for him. The tickets weren't expensive and worth it to see that train wreck. They were really good about it all and so was the audience.

Where do you go to listen to 80s music? Where do you go to listen to 80s music and discover hidden songs you don't know yet?

Help a Chicago area small airport: Clow Int'l (1C5)

I've flown into clow many times back in the early 2000s, maybe even a little in the late 90s. It was in a perfect location to get to our annual family reunion. I wish I could help. If there's a gofundme I'd like to donate.

2025 FAA Directives for GA

Posted by Pilot_Tim@reddit | flying | View on Reddit | 16 comments

Pilot_Tim@reddit (OP)

I don't know, that's what I'm asking. Are there new FAA directives that are going to be mandatory this year like ADS-B out was 15 years ago. I see my highlighting was wrong on the quoted text in the email I copied and probably sent up red flags. "I think he's trying to get people to panic-sell their old beater GA aircraft to bring the prices down so he can get a better deal." - no, I'm just worried that I'm barely able to justify keeping my cherokee flying as it is and if there's some changes coming to avionic requirements, like new channel spacing, or transponder frequencies I won't be able to afford it much longer without serious planning ahead. "Examples?" - that's what I'm asking for. Is there any thing coming in 2025 like the folks at vRef are scaring me about? "You commented “Does anyone know the new directives?”… so you don’t even know what you’re trying to make people panic over?" - I'm not trying to make anyone panic, I'm trying to not panic myself. "Sir, this is a Wendy's." - sorry I though this was a discussion group for all things aviation related. If you choose to browse Reddit at Wendy's, good for you, I love their fries.

How do pilots in GA planes without any glass instruments make and follow a flight plan?

Pilot_Tim@reddit

Drawing lines on paper sectional maps. Watching out the window for landmarks on the line. You'll have a navigation log that you calculated ahead of time with ETAs based on winds and estimated ground speed. You adjust the times based on the difference between your calculations and actual. You can also fly on nav radials. If you have two vors receivers you can work out pretty much exactly where you are.

When I decided flying my family around was not something I should take on without having the best set of skills available to me at any time. I waited twenty years after getting my private and ten years after starting a family. I should have started earlier, but I was lucky for ten years. I wouldn't make the same choice again, but I'm glad I didn't have to do ADF approaches LoL.

Most likely training. Could be pilots keeping their 'currency' to remain legal, could be students up with instructors. Weekends usually are $100 hamburger pilots that fly to airports with restaurants or flying to destinations.

Safety of GA flying

Posted by ColourWheel5@reddit | flying | View on Reddit | 150 comments

Pilot_Tim@reddit

Cars are much safer than GA planes. Until you get two near each other. GA accidents are primarily 'pilot-error'. You didn't check for water in fuel, you took off with the gust lock installed, you only checked fuel quantity by reading the gauges, etc. Or, you forgot to check the your comms volume was turned up, you flew into clouds w/o training, you failed to lower the gear, etc. In my plane, I'm confident that everything is under my control. If I don't think something is safe I don't fly. In my car, I'm confident my car is mechanically sound and I'm of good mind to drive but that's not going to stop someone from running a red light and t-boning me.
