My Flight instructor told me this:

GA can be terrifying sometimes. I remember doing pattern work and looked at the runway and someone had just landed with no radio calls. The medivac pilots there lit him up! The scariest by far for me was sitting backseat in a baron since I was bored. A CSEL pilot was training and the instructor pulled with mixture on the right engine. The student promptly stomped on the wrong rudder. I can still hear the instructor screaming “do you want to die” over and over. Not fun

She was one of the most sought after people to get ratings with. She was scheduled well into August. People from Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and beyond traveled to NC to get their Multi Rating with her

Haven’t heard it in person (obviously) but have only. The XF-84H aka Thunderscreech. It produced 900 sonic booms per second and ruptured many people ears. Nothing became of it due to it’s incredibly loud propeller

Best Budget Headsets?

I’ve been using Bose A20 and recently bought a bunch of headsets used for my passengers. A pair of QT halos were included. Tried them out for the first time yesterday and I’m blown away. Hearing protection is much better than any ANR headset by far (assuming you insert the tips properly). They weigh 2 ounces and you don’t notice they’re there. I’m super hyped about them right now and wish I bought them sooner. My problem with any on ear headset is the perforation of the ears when wearing a hat or sunglasses. I wear Randolph’s with bayonet tips and they still break the seal *slightly* but enough to let in noise. If you want to protect your hearing and be super comfortable I recommend the Halo or clarity aloft. For ease of use, get on ear. I’ll be letting my Pax use my A20s for now

I’ve heard great things about the QT Halo although they are not TSO’d. I have a pair arriving today that I got for a good deal. I’ll try them in the plane but I’m not sure I’ll sure them all that much. They don’t block low frequencies, which cause hearing loss, so I can only assume they are worse for my hearing than my bose and lightspeeds

They are high fidelity earplugs that provides a reduction is decibels but does not sacrifice sound quality. They’re good for concerts

This is a very goofy question, what haircut should I get that would be the most convient for flying. (GA VFR)

Garmin Watch as gift for 18yo son

Garmin watches are nice but unnecessary with all the tech available to pilots of all ages. I would recommend getting him a nice watch that won’t go out of style. I highly recommend the Squale 1521. They recently redesigned it but the previous version is basically identical to Rolex submariner. It is Swiss made and has good weight to it. Can’t go wrong with the Tag either!

POH question

Posted by Pdbteam@reddit | flying | View on Reddit | 8 comments

Pdbteam@reddit (OP)

I just checked the TCDS and it said any plane built after 1979 is required to have a poh on board. Included were serial numbers for airplanes required. Interestingly, the serial numbers were associated with 1971 and newer aircraft. Every POH online I can find for the airplane was issued in 1979. The very first poh was 40 pages in 1975, and 300 pages in 1979.

ATC amending flight plan question

This is a hypothetical from KLUK to KPDK using the recommended route from ForeFlight. I am going to be working on instrument rating soon so I just wanted to be sure if this is something I ever come across, I don’t deviate and get in trouble. FLM is a nearby VOR as a hypothetical in case the flight plan was amended. Thanks for the info on pushing back if I hear something vague like that.

At least one of the planes was not legal (ARROW wasn’t up to date) and DPE did not want to conduct flight portion of checkride in it. School pushed back and said the examiner is bad and not to use him. They didn’t want anyone digging further into their school
