QT Halo / Axis Headset

I’m set to buy a Halo or Axis headset after trying them out and really enjoying the lightweight, cool feeling it provides as the weather starts to get warmer.
I know it uses 3M EARlink earbuds but I was curious how long a pair lasts before needing to swap them out for a new pair. Thanks!

I love my Halo, but it definitely looks and feels like someone's garage hobby project. But it's held up for about a decade at this point; one of the cords has a couple cracks in the insulation that I keep meaning to get fixed, but for the time being I just added some heat shrink.
I think I've swapped the buds out maybe twice in those ten years. They definitely look grungy after about, oh, one or two wears.

I sent mine in to get the cord repaired and it was replaced with the nice new Kevlar style cord that is WAY more durable.

I have a CQ1, which also uses the EARlinks (and I highly recommend, check them out -- small business with great service and product). I use the yellow foamies and tend to swap every 10 hours -- at least with my ears, they get gross and don't seal as well after that. You can buy the tips in bulk from an audiology supply shop and they're extremely cheap compared to what. My wife uses the triple flanged ones, and she gets significantly more hours from those (maybe 40?).
I did get a set of custom ear molds made, and they're extremely comfortable, but significantly louder than the foam tips (loud enough I made it half a flight and then gave up on them). I occasionally go back and use a pair of A20s, and I find the foam tips are significantly quieter than the ANR (and more comfortable).

I have a friend who loves his Halo with the custom ear molds. Same style a musician might have for his monitor setup.
He swears his setup is quieter than Bose.
And he can wear his pirate hat.

I found it to be as quiet as my A20s and dang man, he’s bringing new meaning to the word captain 😂

Mostly they get grubby. I found out by accident that they clean nicely if you leave them in your shirt pocket and send it through the wash.

That’s pretty cool. I’ll take that as they last a while 😂
