What is your opinion on pharmaceutical advertisements?

Posted by Murky-Lingonberry723@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 49 comments

PabloTFiccus@reddit

It's insane. Like, why am I seeing ads for something such a small percentage of the population deals with. And for those people, the ad is meaningless because they either A) are already talking to their doctor about options which is way more personal than an ad plastered on YouTube or B) aren't talking to their doctor because they can't afford to so won't be spending money on the meds anyway. It's not just bad to try and get people to tell their doctor what meds they want to be on (which is so stupid) but also useless for the above reasons. Idk how they see a return on the marketing budget

I'd love to learn but no one will let me practice on their car. I'm not that worried about it, I've never needed to drive a stick. Though I did have a German ex who made fun of me for not knowing. Its more common over there I guess (M 30's)

Its pretty sick to me that the dod even feels it's appropriate to stick its nose in their business like that. Really disgusting but not surprising I guess. I think hegseth would prefer women out of the army as a whole but he's not really able to do that

Yeah my girl scout friends hated how... Idk, feminine? Girl scouts was. Very little emphasis on outdoorsmanship and wilderness survival. There was such a thing as venture scouting, which was co-ed for 14-18 and that was focused on scuba diving, rock climbing, backpacking etc. really fun and as you may imagine, they be fuckin lmao

Should Scouting America be for boys only?

PabloTFiccus@reddit

I'm an eagle scout and was a councilor for many years. Scouting was a huge part of my life. I support the decision to make scouting gender neutral, most every scouting organization worldwide is co-ed and it works great. I think there's going to be about 10 more years of grumbling and then it will level out. By that time all the people involved when it was boys only will have phases out of the program other than a small percentage who will become councilors or scout masters. That said, I think there is something special about having gender segregated spaces. Men and women, especially at that younger age, have a lot of anxiety about how the other sex perceives them. Having a program that caters to one or the other sex isn't necessarily a bad thing imo. Maybe that's how I feel just because it's what I experienced. Again though, I support the decision to integrate and I'm so glad they dropped the gay thing, that was so cruel and was so unpopular among the boys themselves for a couple decades before they dropped the issue. I'd like them to drop the whole atheism thing too, I had to tell people I worshipped the sun as my religion in order to keep working for the BSA, everyone knew I was an atheist but there were sometimes assholes who raised a stink about me. I loved talking to them about Sol Invictus the way preachers rant about Jesus. They got so mad but what are they really gonna do? They can't prove I was lying 😂 I ended up being camp chaplin for a couple years and gave some amazing sermons that everyone of all religions appreciated.

PabloTFiccus@reddit

If you are very close friends with someone, then you can probably do that and its fine If you do that to someone you don't know or especially who works with you, expect it to come across extremely rude Snapping is for dogs and children, or if you need to be subtle or are occupied by talking in the phone Those are the only exceptions I can think of

Do American people agree with the plan to either „buy“ Greenland or invade Greenland?

Posted by Specialist-Kale6887@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 131 comments

PabloTFiccus@reddit

No, and the polling data shows this to be one of the most unpopular things a sitting president has ever gone for. I think I read that only about 7% of Americans would approve of the US taking Greenland by force and only ~25% think we should seek to acquire it through diplomacy. Generally a president will ALWAYS have 20% backing because some people are just tribal about politics and will always back their party leader so this is pretty telling

Has anyone ever encountered a real FBI agent?

Posted by 0N1MU5HA@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 1652 comments

PabloTFiccus@reddit

Yes and I'm so glad I have an opportunity to share. My high school best friend was in the Marines. Before he joined he smoked a ton of weed and did some other stuff (not gonna say more). After the Marines he joined the NSA, which meant he would need high level security clearance and shit. So, they sent an FBI agent to all of his personal references to ask about his character. I was on that list. I was in college at the time and was in the middle of my Hunter Thompson wannabe phase (we've all been there, right?) So my friend calls me up to tell me an FBI agent will be coming by at some point to interview me about his character. He said it was okay to tell the truth about weed but not any of the other stuff. Apparently the FBI has a serious issue with anyone who's done psychedelics, which he's never done of course 👀 So the fbi agent shows up and he's got the suit and the gun in his shoulder holster and the sunglasses, etc. I remember though he was kinda short and pretty wiry. He had a notebook/binder thing and he's sitting in my living room, which must have reeked of pot and old beer stains, while I'm looking like king hippy in linen pants and a paisley shirt. My hair is down to my ass. Books about philosophy, history, and degeneracy are everywhere, alongside ashtrays and subversive artwork. We have a nice chat with small talk and I can't help but joking around with him, he's laughing and we're vibing pretty well. He asks me about how I know my friend and what he's like. I tell him he's the all American kid and a loyal friend and all that. He has specific questions like, is he or has he ever been associated with anti American organizations. Is he or has he ever been an enemy of the United States. Come to think of it he had to ask me a lot of the same questions at the very beginning too. I got the feeling he knew these questions were kinda hokey. He asked me about my friends travel history and drug use, which I told him was normal for someone who graduated high school and wasn't sure what to do next. He laughed and said he was a teen in the 70s, nothing wrong with that. He did ask specifically if he had ever used lsd, magic mushrooms, etc. of course I told him no of course. Overall the questions and stuff took roughly half an hour. I was doing my best to be amicable and gas up my friend because I knew this was important to him. I also figured I had a rare opportunity to get to know an FBI agent. So once we were done with the actual interview I ask if he can tell me about being an FBI agent. He talked about the education you need to get there, what the training was like, how much paperwork there is and mostly it's pretty dull unless you're in like, a counter terror field agent or whatever. Then for whatever reason he starts talking about his divorce. And I'm like, damn bruh that sucks a big one, she sounds like a total bitch, etc. I'm kinda over all this now and I wanna get back to my life but, how am I supposed to tell Mr. FBI it's time to go? I figure I'll just nod along until he gets the hint. YALL, THIS MAN TALKED ABOUT HIS DIVORCE FOR TWO HOURS. There was no natural break in the conversation. I had this guy so at ease he was just spilling his guts like nothing else. I mean I desperately wanted him to go but it would have been so rude, I mean he was mid-life crisising right there in my recliner. So I'm just guru McGee through all this, made him some tea. Swear to God I thought he was going to angry cry three times. Eventually he left and I called my buddy to tell him things went well but the FBI were a bunch of pussies. He laughed and said that's why he was going NSA 💀 Anyway that's my encounter with the FBI. Main takeaway is if you meet someone who's married to an FBI agent, you can probably smash.

Driving culture varies enormously depending on where in the US you are. Someone did a study on how long it takes to honk in this exact situation you described. In New York they got honked at in less than a second, but in the Midwest they were supposed that after about 30 seconds or so, the driver behind them showed up at their driver window to ask if they were okay, having never honked XD
