After a year of using Windows Server 2025, I'm finally throwing in the towel

Never. I migrated a few test servers in March last year, then swapped all 6 of my domain controllers in June. And never looked back. I have been slowly migrating them all since with no issues. We don't have an onsite exchange server so we never had that issue. We never saw domain trust issues like you. Not once we have over a 100 servers running 2025, with various roles

I have about 70 servers of various roles, including my domain controllers running 2025. Zero issues to date. To much fear mongering around here.

2025 increased the AD database size. This causes issues in a mixed environment. If you add any 2025, replace all the other and migrate all to 2025 that week. Once you have them all on 2025, you will not have issues. Just don't keep a mixed environment.

test-computersecurechannel is false. That is what has me one the fence here. It should not have been offline long enough to tombstone or lose domain trust or anything. It was fine last week though.

As long as you quickly migrate all the DC to 2025 there is no problem. Mixing 2025 DC with older OS DC is the issue. 2025 increased the database size for the first time in 30 years.

[time.windows.com](http://time.windows.com),0x9 is specifically what I am using. Infact, that link is pretty much exactly what I am doing now, with the exception, that I do let me hyper-v hosts handle time for the VM's, that has never been an issue, as those hosts sync with the DC anyway.

Also, how are you setting a backup? I am using group policy to point my roles holder DC to [time.windows.com](http://time.windows.com) but the GPO has no option for a redundant option.

As a guy who has worked in IT for 19+ years, I am going to give you my honest feedback here. Certs tell me you can pass a test, but does not tell me that you have real world working knowledge. At 20 I assume you have no or very little experience. I have help desk guys older than you that don't understand a lot of basic IT stuff, and screw up a lot. Experience will come with time, but people will make assumptions.

If you understand what bugs it has and understand if they will effect your environment, then you can make that call. But that blanket statement is how people stayed on windows 10 for way longer than they should have.

Ok_SysAdmin@reddit

Had you replaced the 2022 with a 2025 DC, so all were 2025, that also would have resolved the issue. It's the mixed DC that is the issue for 2025.

I said mixed OS domain controllers. Just update them all, and you are good. I have been running this way for months with no issues. We use o365, so no exchange issues for us.

Ok_SysAdmin@reddit

It is not a dumpster fire. It's only an issue if you have onsite exchange, or mixed OS domain controllers, because the database size has finally been increased.
