Off Grid Living, is it possible?

Posted by 37yearoldonthehunt@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 10 comments

OkCaregiver517@reddit

No such thing as off grid. Short of joining one of the few remaining Hunter Gatherer peoples in the planet, you are gonna be locked in to some aspect of the global economy and the fossil fuel system. Living in a van? Fossil fuels. Living on a boat (thass me btw) ? Fossil Fuels. Living on a small holding, even with full solar electricity? Still locked into "the system" via your vehicle (cos you live in the country), your Council tax, probably your water bill etc. And, at the first hint of a toothache, you'll be straight round the dentist. By all means, simplify your life. Consume way less. Produce as much of your own food and energy as you can (bloody hard work btw) and develop a range of skills. But don't kid yourself.

Mmmm, yes and no. Firstly for lots of kids, school is the safest and most interesting part  of their day. So many kids have desperately awful home lives. Also, the quality of home schooling is wildly varied. I'm a fully  qualified  MFL teacher and could probably get a kid over the line in all the Humanities but not the Arts, Sciences or Maths. Not sure your average parent could pull off 9 passes at GCSE.

Do most people think restaurants should be dog friendly?

Posted by fede_galizia@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 898 comments

OkCaregiver517@reddit

I've got a small dog and am perfectly OK with restaurants banning dogs. I am glad that pubs don't however as that would make my life a misery. So many pubs now serve excellent food so I'm happy. Im also happy to leave doggo at home and go to a nice restaurant.
