That’s the thing: hours are so long you barely get time off in those areas of law. And what little time you do have you’re basically using it to recover from the intensity of the job.

New warehouse job first shift concerns, not sure if I’m overreacting or if this is a bad workplace. Any advice?

First of all I am very sorry to hear about what your grandad is going through. You are not overreacting, based on what you said it was a bad shift and it’s not your fault it’s the manager. They sound like a prick. This is not moral behaviour in a workplace and is borderline abusive. Do they treat the others like this too or just you? Not that it matters, they should not be doing this to you full stop. In terms of whether to stick it out or not: the money is decent. Give it a couple of weeks, see if things settle. If they don’t, I would advise maybe applying for other jobs while keeping this one if you can. Just to keep the income stream til you find something new. If it gets too horrible I would try to see if you can report the manager to someone higher up. If not, maybe just quit as it might not be worth the extra mental anguish.

I think we could be a million times better off given the tech and advances we’ve got if we didn’t live in a shitty system where billionaires run things in their interests while 99% of the rest of us are forced to compete over scraps. We have enough money to fund better living standards for everyone, house everyone, feed everyone and build better infrastructure if only we distributed wealth more fairly. Instead we’re going from one economic crisis to another due to greed and power plays by the elite. And that’s just the UK, things are far worse in other countries.

Yeah how dare we talk about something morally reprehensible. If only the British took the same stance when it came to the Nazis killing people in Europe or Russia bombing Ukrainians. Maybe it’s because brown people are worth less than white people. /s

It’s a shame. We all want connection but I can see why purpose-planned “meet ups” for strangers would attract the weirdos. Maybe you’re better off just striking up conversations with people during your regular day today.

Just because a city doesn’t cater to cars doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s probably one of the most walkable cities in the world. The architecture is insane, the river and canals, the history.

Honestly I would just start by getting any job to begin with, whether that’s fast food restaurants or a supermarket anything that should be easy enough to get into. Spend at least 6 months -1 year in that job to build up your skills and experience. After that your CV will be in a much better position for applying to other stuff. You just need a foundation to begin with.

That’s fair given that the BBC was founded in the 1920s but I am still genuinely curious. Given how the BBC is handling this issue, I would be surprised if the BBC didn’t report much on Germany until the work actually actively broke out and pussy footing around it was no longer an option.
