There’s a large area of countryside west of Sevenoaks in Kent called the Montreal Estate, which I believe used to belong to Geoffrey Amherst, who was ruler of Montreal or something similar (I can’t remember the exact link). There’s loads of walking routes through it and they have the Canadian maple leaf on signs.

What sort of people would you imagine calling you respectively “Love”, “Poppet”, “Duck/Duckie”, “Babes”, “my Pet”, or “my Hearty”?

Depends, I’m a southerner and I work in an office with Scottish people, Welsh, Northern Irish, Irish, Yorkshire, Mancunians, etc. so I hear the different accents pretty much every day.

To be fair Americans have started latching on to his eccentric Guardian articles as of late, so maybe in the past but think he’s started to get a bigger reach through his slightly barmy columns.

Harry Potter, relatively speaking. Definitely still popular here, but the way tourists obsess over it and buy all the tat from the dodgy shops on Oxford Street and in other places like Oxford and York is on another level.

It depends what you like to do with your life. I’ve spent most of my life in London but I’m moving out because I’m quite outdoorsy and like birding and hiking, but obviously if you like things such as going out, going to the theatre, museums, etc then London will be for you. Just bear in mind it’s expensive, a lot of the rental properties are pretty awful in terms of quality, and the city can get very dreary in winter.

Jamaica, was made to feel like a walking cash machine whether it was in the hotel or on town. Not the local’s fault obviously, they need money, but it just felt a bit unpleasant.

The Slug at Fulham (latterly the Redback) was a shithole but good fun in your teens, was a South African rugby bar in the daytime. Stickiest floors I’ve ever experienced, there was pingpong tables that always had drinks spilled all over. 3 Jägerbombs for a fiver in 2018 wasn’t bad. Sadly shuttered for the last 2 years or so, walk past it every day.

Just being dopey and dimwitted in public, for example people standing in the middle of pavements, busy trains etc gurning at Tiktoks on their phone with headphones in, paying zero attention to anyone or indeed the world around them. Also based on a recent experience, people standing/sitting in a disabled space on public transport and not offering it to elderly people or mothers with buggies.
