Ooh I should probably read that. Did it genuinely help you to cut down on processed food or is it more of a rant about how bad processed food is for us?

I found her style in Wolf Hall a little distracting (the use of the third person, was it?) I suppose you'd tell me I have to push on with Bring up the Bodies etc?

Ok, I should definitely read the book now. Film was great, as one of the first mega blockbusters I saw in the cinema as a kid. need to revisit that, too.

Ha, that's funny for me, I really like interstellar and it is a film i enjoy rewatching, mainly to try and understand it (!!). I actually like to rewatch a select few films but almost never books, never thought about why (maybe the time investment being greater in a book? I find layers in rewatching certain films that I didn't see before, say The Last Emperor by Bertolucci. My friend also recently recommended Green lights.

I'm not too up on genres, have read Crime and Punishment and loved it, if that counts. Which Russian classics do you go back to? I keep meaning to read more

It's pretty much pop psychology look at habits. Even though there isn't much revelatory stuff in there, I think spending time reflecting on why habits occur actually helped me to change a few things for the better

Crime and Punishment - makes the point that the psychology of any wrongful act (not nearly as heinous as murder) will often ruin the perpetrator. Don't do bad things.

Ah that might explain why the Wire was so darn good... Deep, lived experience, written from a place of empathy, connection and understanding, rather than just a scathing takedown.

Ahh Jane Eyre was painful as a teenage boy doing A-Level English lit... Unrequited love in Victorian England with everything about gestures and subtle words was so hard to get into. It's firmly on the never again list for me 😆

Just wrote this same comment then saw this! It's a great read. Cathedrals have a whole new appreciation in my mind now, and I thought they were pretty cool before

If you fancy a good read, Ken Follet's the Pillars of the Earth is a good historical fiction novel about the building of cathedrals set in the medieval period (we know very little about the actual people who built them, just who commissioned them and who perhaps designed them, not more).

Ditto. Have started telling a few close friends and family now it's paying a little, but don't share links as I don't want it to affect how I think about the content I make

I've been trying to do this for the last 6 months or so. Best profits I've had have been from unexpected items. Car boot sales are the way, charity shops are (understandably) very clued on prices these days (and good for them), but most at a car boot just want a few quid to get the thing out of their life.

Nice one, I've considered all of those except for buying a list, which I knew as a practice but hadn't thought of it in my context. Good idea! Cheers

How can we set something up to start advocating for this process? I know all the obstacles are there in the form of vested interests etc but there has to be a way to improve things

I did see something recently about prestige being simply a mechanism to bait ambitious people into working there.  How did you make the transition to setting up your own company, out of curiosity? Was it by freelancing and contracting first? Cheers and good luck to you!

Sorry but that's too much of a generalisation. People around me aren't bad.  Maybe I've overdone it a little in the description, so apologies for that, but I suppose I'm trying to hear from people who didn't follow the well trodden path and how it went for them and the conversations they had with those around them
