Nebraska Teacher, 26, Facing 20 Years in Prison for Dating High School Graduate, 19. Can any American explain this case to me?

Posted by starfrommilkyway@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 54 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

“Unlike other states however, a teacher is still in violation in the state of Nebraska if they engage in intimate relations with a student in the 90 days after they leave or graduate from the school system.” It’s right there. It’s an attempt to protect kids against grooming.

Posted by LetRevolutionary271@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 64 comments

Consider this. There are a lot of people in America. Some will be toxic, some won’t. High population means higher quantities of both toxic and non toxic people.

How often do you eat bread?

Posted by 79215185-1feb-44c6@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 156 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

Since when don’t rolls count as bread lmao? Anyway, America doesn’t really have a bread culture. I like me a good loaf of bread, I’ll swing by a bakery and grab one and have it with butter and jam and stuff occasionally but we typically just use bread for sandwiches. It’s not something we commonly eat plain. Our funny little cultural food stuff tends towards other directions.

What do you think of fried butter?

Posted by NewspaperBest4882@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 124 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

It’s a fake food. We don’t actually eat it, it’s a gimmick haha. It’s meant to draw the eye of foreigners (no offense). As for fried foods I do like. Fried Oreos and Frenchees (deep fried grilled cheese sandwiches) fucking slap.

What personality would (most) every American trust?

Posted by Prestigious_Ask_6160@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 59 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

It’s not cynical, I can’t believe I have to break this down for you. Most people can sense deception rather easily, okay? They can tell when someone’s being fake. If it’s a person you never have to speak to again they won’t notice much, but if you’re around people you’ll be around a lot (coworkers, friends, ect) they will quickly sense you as not genuine. People *hate* that shit. I meant what I said, “how do I get the most people to trust me” is not the thought process of a person who reads as trustworthy. It’s what people who are untrustworthy think like. Just be yourself and if everyone hates you that’s your sign to look inward.

Not whatever this brand of social manipulation is lmao. “How can i optimize my behavior to make the most people trust me” is not the thought process is a trustworthy person. You sound like a shitty used boat salesman.

Do many people actually run to the gas station multiple times a day only to get soda refills?

Posted by Wallaroo_Trail@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 155 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

No, not commonly. I’m sure some people do but it would be considered quite weird. The exception is road trips, as it’s considered impolite to stop and get out to use the restroom without making a purchase. So if I’m on a road trip and need to stop for the restroom or to stretch I’ll pull over at a gas station and grab a soda or a candy bar or beef jerky or gum or something else cheap.

How many ways have you had shrimp in your life? So you have a favourite shrimp preparation?

Posted by Britney_Spears_Bosom@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 204 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

HOLY FUCK I LOVE SHRIMP THIS IS MY QUESTION I’ve had it all the ways, literally all the ways. My favorite way to cook it is to sauté it in butter and other seasonings, or grill it on a kabob. The best way I’ve ever had it eating out was actually just a bigass pot of beer boiled shrimp, idk what they did to eat to make it so flavorful but fuck it was good.

Do high school/college football teams really ride from town to town in a bus chanting songs about themselves?

Posted by WaspsInMyGoatse@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 123 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

Yes, school buses are yellow. We wanted a very noticeable color for our buses full of children. And it’s team dependent. I’ve been on a few high school sports teams, some of it consisted of doing some chanting and hyping ourselves up, sometimes we just sat on our phones. Usually we did the chanting routine before big games to work off some nerves.

Do you like watching British sitcoms? Why or why not?

Why is the age of 18 so important in American culture?

Posted by Hkvnr495___dkcx37@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 127 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

It would be a logistical nightmare to treat every single thing as a case by case basis. At some point we had to pick a number and just make it the line in the sand, simply so we can function as a large society. Is there fundamentally that much difference between someone who’s 17 years and 11 months old and a freshly turned 18 year old? Not really. But we realized that if we had to look at all 300 million people individually to decide if they’re allowed to do adult things or not society wouldn’t function.

Is police in schools and colleges really common in the US?

Posted by Nice-Contest1499@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 427 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

Very normal. Many schools are huge so it’s handy to have an officer on site for vandalism, truancy, drug use, or god forbid something worse. Simply the presence of an officer can deter a lot of criminal behavior.

Posted by mdelgado73@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 108 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

No, someone people look for any reason to sue but they aren’t common. Usually a lawsuit would be “I slipped on a wet floor because there was no wet floor signs and now I want my medical bills paid because I had to go to the hospital.” We’re farrrr from the most litigious country.

How common is it for you to get “called into work” on a weekend or evening?

Posted by Careless_Squirrel728@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 356 comments

It depends heavily on the job. Some jobs you’ll never have it happen (office jobs, salaried positions). Some jobs it’ll happen often (emergency professions, trade).

No, I don’t think so. The life skills learned from scouting are equally important to teach boys and girls. At the very most I would support optional boys and girls only individual troops.

Why don't you guys feel the medicinal flavour in Root Beer Sodas?

Posted by kanhaaaaaaaaaaaa@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 96 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

Our medicine is flavored different to yours, so we never develop the association. It’s like if all medicine tasted like… I don’t know, chocolate. That doesn’t mean chocolate tastes bad but we would develop an association with chocolate flavor as medicine.

Is Hershey's chocolate really taste so bad as people say it is?

Posted by cupid_ji@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 2662 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

No! It’s called Butyric acid, it’s natural phenomenon that occurs because of the way Hershey’s makes their chocolate. It’s also found in cheese, milk, butter, and some yogurts and cream. Some people don’t like the taste, and that’s fine, but anyone trying to claim it tastes universally bad is dumb as rocks. It gives that slightly tangy taste that’s very distinctive to Hershey chocolate. Europe especially has a lot of strong chocolate making traditions that don’t produce Butyric acid, so people in Europe grow up not tasting it in their chocolate and getting weirded out when they try American chocolate. It’s just different flavors, and as someone who’s tried both I don’t think either is superior. Sometimes I go without it but sometimes I explicitly buy Hershey’s just because I’ve grown to like that taste. It’s just a difference in food freaking out Europeans who couldn’t possibly understand that not everything will always be as they are accustomed to.

Why the trope of executions being public?

Posted by leuks48@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 41 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

Not a trope. We have a group of witnesses in real life for the death penalty. Family and friends of the one being executed, family of friends of the victims, reporters, attorneys. It’s not just like anyone can watch, you do have to get clearance to be there. People tend to have reasons for it. Sometimes the executed want someone to be there for them in death, sometimes the family of the victim wants that closure, the press wants to report on it, attorneys are there to make sure everything is up to snuff.

Do americans consider skiing a luxury sport?

Posted by naxx54@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 425 comments

DragonKing0203@reddit

Depends on where you live, but generally it’s considered pretty bougie. I used to live in a different place, very close to some smaller slopes, so I got to ski a bit when I was younger. Some people would have to travel more and that racks up the expenses.
