I traded in a Corolla iM with dents, scratches, a giant crack in the windshield, and *literal holes in the roof* and my Hyundai dealer still gave me $12k for it.

Those who traded in their “fun” car for a less fun car, why?

Eating into the already pretty cramped cargo capacity is unfortunate. Sucks Subaru couldn't stretch the body of the new gen Crosstrek out just a bit to make more room in the trunk.

As someone who loves my Corolla Hatch, I found these to be a pretty poor value compared to its competition in this segment. You have to get the top trim to get lumbar support and heated seats and all of the numbers that matter (fuel economy, cargo capacity, passenger volume, etc) are middle of the pack at best. The hybrid, the only drivetrain worth getting, only bumps the price up more and you still don't get the better seats until you're paying almost $34k.

Yep, that's exactly the type of thing I'm talking about. They even take their own measurements of the cargo space of these cars which is awesome, since raw volume number doesn't tell the whole story. Autoblog has their "luggage test" which I think is, by far, the most useful comparison of utilitarianism between cars.

I wish these reviews would focus on maxing out the practicality of the cars rather than the performance. Nobody cares about steering feel or handling or quarter mile times in this segment. You gave me pictures of the trunk, take it one step further and stuff that thing to the brim with stuff (including people) so I can get an idea of how much crap I can lug around and how it drives loaded up. Fold down the back seats and see how many sheets of plywood or drywall you can stack up. Strap some kayaks or bikes or a couch onto the roof. If it can tow, hook a small trailer up, and *then* tell me how it drives. People are looking to maximize the utilitarian qualities of these cars, not carve mountain roads.

That's a very strange way to interpret what I just said. And yes, since we live in a society^TM being financially viable for both municipalities and businesses is very important for the long-term health of civilization, until we have our magical revolution into a post-capitalistic society. Regardless of that, people living in urban areas is still better for the environment than people living in sprawled areas.

2025 Nissan Kicks Glows Up, Now Offering AWD and More Space

Comms-Error@reddit

We do multiple camping, kayaking, and ski trips every year, and as Corolla hatch barely cuts it to carry our all of our gear, even with the rear seats down and roof racks on top. And that's just the two of us, we just straight up don't have space if we wanted to bring along friends. I'm sorry if you can't believe it, but some people do need a slightly larger car sometimes. My sister has a baby and when I have to pick her up from the airport, I can't fit all of her family's stuff in my car (luggage, stroller, car seat, etc) without strapping things to the roof. And what do you mean these SUVs aren't compact? These are literally the same length and width of a compact car, which makes them just as easy to maneuver in cities, yet offer better cargo and passenger space by utilizing verticality, and are better equipped for not much more money while still being roughly as fuel efficient. This is literally as small as you can get with SUVs without straight up putting a compact hatchback on stilts.

All of the current subcompact CUVs were just a hair too small (cargo space wise) for our tastes. "Upsized" cars like this new Kicks and the new Kona hit a sweet spot for us, that offers just enough cargo space while still being compact enough to not be a bear to drive around.

Weight doesn't matter that much compared to aerodynamics for fuel efficiency, particularly at higher speeds. The M240xi weighs a good ~500lbs more than the Crosstrek, which leads to its slightly lower city mileage. Since it's lower and has a more aerodynamic profile, it gets *really good* highway efficiency for its weight and power output. The BMW X340i, which is the closest vehicle in terms of size and form factor as the Crosstrek that has the B58/8-speed AWD drivetrain, gets 21/26 *with* a mild hybrid system. The B58/ZF8 drivetrain is *really good* at efficiently making power, sure. But it also requires premium gas to run that amount of power and fuel efficiency, which is significantly more expensive than regular fuel. Not to mention the significant price difference between the cars (both the M240xi and the X340i vs the Crosstrek). >Pretty good example imo You're comparing an economy subcompact crossover with a luxury coupe, which are built to completely different specs and price points. Compared to its competition, *economy subcompact crossovers*, the Crosstrek makes adequate power and fuel efficiency. It would cost significantly more, both in price and in running costs, if Subaru decided to put a turbocharged inline-6 in it instead, not to mention compromising serviceability and reliability. The Crosstrek's 2.5L and CVT is fine for what it is. It's competitive within its class and economical to own and run. It's not a sports car, but that doesn't make it shitty. >shut up and stopped replying back. Not everyone sits on Reddit all day looking for people to argue with. It seems tiring being this aggro all the time. Chill out.

It gets the car to 0-60 in about the same time as most of its other competitors, is comparatively efficient, it's reliable, and it's affordable. Doesn't sound too shitty to me. It's an economy subcompact crossover. What do you want out of it? >There are cars with 2.5x the power and better fuel economy without a power-sapping CVT No, there aren't.

I have been driving cars with AEB for over 5 years. In every car that I've had that has it, I set it to maximum sensitivity. I have had a couple of occasions where the system will beep at me that I'm coming up on a car too fast (I was aware of what's going on every time). It's only ever actually engaged the brakes and save my ass once, ever. I have never, *ever*, had a system engage the brakes on me on a false positive. The computers will literally wait until the last possible second to actually hit the brakes for you. It will beep and scream for a lot longer before it actually hits the brakes. What it *is* doing while beeping away at you is priming the brakes so that you'll immediately get 100% brake power the moment you hit the pedal. But that will end, along with the beeping, once it realizes that you're not about to hit the car in front of you. I'm not saying these things are perfect, nor will I deny that software glitches or faulty sensors exist too. It's entirely possible that you may one day experience a false positive event that will cause your car to slam onto your brakes for you. And I looked it up and it seems like the majority of the anecdotes I've found online were involving Subarus (and Teslas, but... lol). But in the end I'd be willing to bet you are much more likely to be rear ended on your morning commute than for that to happen.
