I'm intrigued by the no fabric conditioner suggestion? How do you stop your clothes and towels being like wooden boards after you've line dried them?

You've just unlocked a memory for me! Years ago I went on a hen do and one of the activities was a dirty dancing workshop. I'm not sure which was funnier- me worrying that we were going to have to do inappropriate things to each other (I had no idea what the film was about) or everyone else on the day saying OMG YOUVE NEVER SEEN DIRTY DANCING?! As if I'd told them I'd never had a wash for 10 years or something.

I'd never had any experience with babies until I was sent home with mine 😄 The great thing is that you have loads of time to practice ready for advanced mode: toddler nappy changing Trying to change and dress a toddler requires wrestling moves 😂 Hope all goes well and your baby is soon here!

So good to come on here and see this comment! More people need to realise that trees aren't some sort of magic bullet and planting them in the wrong place can actually cause a lot of environmental damage. What is really worrying is the amount of tree planting organisations that don't seem to care where the trees are planted, as long as they get them in the ground.

I'm convinced my washer is possessed by an evil entity- if I'm staying at home an hour wash will take an hour but if I have to go out it ensures it won't finish until after the time I have to leave. It's done it too many times, how does it know 😱

Urgh that green green grass song. Some songs I don't particularly like but they have an OK beat to them, in that song even the beat is annoying. It reminds me of nursery rhymes!

What fun stuff did your parents refuse to buy you as a kid, for no logical reason?

I dreamed about having a Britains farm set! I had a few Freisian cows and a Hereford Bull which I bought with my pocket money. I still love them too, they look so realistic. I went on to buy quite a few Britains things for my son, who then showed no interest in it! Maybe without knowing we buy the things we always wanted ourselves for our own kids. My Mum was a child through the war years and they had almost nothing, I think her only toy was a home made rag doll. So maybe she always dreamed about having a dolls house. I'd never thought about it like that until now 🥲

I still feel the crushing guilt from nearly 40 years ago from being given a dolls house that my parents had obviously saved hard for. I don't know why they got it for me, I had no interest in dolls or anything girly but I guess being a girl meant I should have liked it. I desperately wanted a farm set which would have been cheaper but never did get one! Went to work with real farm animals at 16 instead 😄

It's taken me 20 years but I've managed to build up a reasonable selection of foods. Starting with eating a tiny slither of something and repeating for a month, then building up. It's awful at the start, lots of things I couldn't even touch let alone put in my mouth but gradually my senses calmed down and accepted what I was doing. Still can't do things with strong smells e.g banana and some things are a texture nightmare e.g oranges (will never master them!). Hope that doesn't come across as preachy/bragging, I appreciate everyone's different. I love mayonnaise too though, could live on it!

What is the etiquette for annoying wind chimes?

Posted by L-Emirali@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 135 comments

Beccabunga13@reddit

In my experience, it might be better to just put up with the wind chimes, simple requests can rapidly go downhill. I once politely asked my neighbour if they could possibly limit their child's drum practice or move rooms (shared a wall in an 80s build with paper thin walls) as on holidays and weekends it would go on for much of the day and it was slowly driving me mad. I couldn't believe the vicious reaction I got back. He went on to catalogue all my wrong doings, including being able to hear my door shutting when I got home from work and me talking in the garden. He really had issues. So maybe let sleeping dogs lie.....

I lived there for 3 years and hated it. If you could find a local, they were really friendly but the majority of people were incomers and so far up their own arse they wouldn't have stopped to help if you were dying in the street.

Same here! I'd love to buy a few and then my friends could move back too, and I wouldn't be the only local in the village 😄 Although what it would be like to live there now, surrounded by weekenders with their range rovers and stripey jumpers, I don't know....

Do you regret not travelling/experiencing more?

Posted by kiwisandapples@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 181 comments

Beccabunga13@reddit

100% do this and don't believe the YouTube videos of families who reckon you can travel the world with kids- it's stressful and exhausting! Once you have kids and the mountain of accessories that come with them, an annual trip to France or Cornwall will be enough! (Well, you may get a bit further if you're determined....) My biggest regret in life has been not traveling more, just hoping I live long enough now that I can do it one day!!

This sounds proper random- the washing line prop. A 6ft pole....just gone. Still drives me mad wondering what the heck happened to it. Only thing I can think of is that someone nicked it but can't work out who would get into my back garden and then decide to run off with a large metal and plastic pole. I've never replaced it but I think after two years I need to get closure and buy a new one.....

Beccabunga13@reddit

This is my life too 😄 solo mum so always endless chores. I know it probably seems boring staying in the house Saturday but we call it the chill day and try to do that. Might walk into town for a late breakfast. Only difference is in late spring and summer, when the weather finally warms up, we try and get out with the camper van every other weekend (every weekend would kill me 😂). Best thing I ever did, did a self conversion and we've had some great times.

Did you ever regret leaving your hometown?

Posted by SausageAndBeans88@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 203 comments

Beccabunga13@reddit

Yes. I'm now a single mum with no family nearby, it's a 7 hour drive to see them and most of my relatives are getting old and frail. I feel sad I won't be able to care for them when they need help. I can't move as my son is happy and settled in school and needs his Dad in his life. But such is life, I didn't know it would work out like this.

What were you doing tonight in 1995?

Beccabunga13@reddit

Depended if I had got out of the house or not 😄 If I had, round at my mates drinking diamond white, then hoping her boyfriend would give us a lift into town. If we got to town, then it was either to the club which turned a blind eye to underage customers or hanging out in the town centre making eyes at the guys with XR3i's and sierra cosworths. Then home for a complete bollocking from my parents and probably spending the following Friday night sulking in my room 😂

I'm sorry to hear this- I thought things were bad in the UK. Do you know why they they have such a draconian policy? I can't understand what the issue is with sleeping in vehicles overnight, as long as people move on. In France most towns have an area created especially for overnighting, with a place to dump toilet waste and fill up on water. The system works well, as far as I know.

Where to turn for advice on leaving my husband?

I would say it's best to leave womans aid and samaritans to those who desperately need help. Whilst OP might be going through a tricky time they are not in any danger by the sound of it. Having been through domestic violence I can tell you it's pretty awful when the phone lines are busy and you can't get through. I think relationship counselling would suit them better.

I remember that, the advert said something about non English speaking people not being able to pronounce jif so they were changing it to cif. I remember testing it on my Mum, who has English as her 2nd language and she pronounced jif fine. I was weirdly disappointed!

I was telling a work colleague the other day about having to sit for hours in the car on my own whilst my Dad was in the pub, and they didn't believe me! I used to riffle through the glove box and if I was lucky there might have been some of those 'travel sweets' in a tin or a fisherman's friend!

I hope you're right! I did a similar thing, lent £400 to my partner to help him out, but then a while later he started to become abusive towards me so I left. Funnily enough he's never bothered paying me back and I doubt I'll ever see the money again. Lesson learnt, won't ever lend money to anyone again, but I very much hope karma catches up with him.

What's the worst date or dates you have been on?

Posted by Living_Reputation978@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1254 comments

Beccabunga13@reddit

Timing can be so cruel sometimes... I had a similar experience when I was 18, I'd been seeing this guy for a few weeks and we decided to go for a walk on the moor one afternoon. I'd had a ginsters pasty for lunch which obviously was a bit dodgy as whilst on the walk, I got that feeling that you described so well. Thankfully we were by a forestry plantation so I did get to preserve some modesty but I basically had to randomly run off and leave him and shit my guts out in the wood. The toilet paper alternatives weren't great. I was pretty mortified when he asked why I had been in the woods so long. To top it all off, the fog then came down and we got lost and then had to walk back along a main road in the dark. Surprisingly, we were together for about 6 months before I had to move with work and we stayed friends. Never want a date like that again though!
