STAYCATION!
I remember when the word was first used. Somehow it has evolved to mean "not going abroad" which is stupid.
Staycation originally meant to stay in one's own home and go to the tourist attractions in your local area.
And that was a fabulous concept.
Now there isn't a word for it anymore and I hate that.
Snog is a gross word.
English slang has an amazing ability to make all romantic and sexual terms sound disgusting.

Why does tiktok not allow it anyway? They're saying it's unconstitutional to ban their app but they don't allow people to say die, kill or any other natural thing that teens don't care if they saw the actual word. Look at yourselves tiktok honestly.
I have no idea about that channel but I've seen countless videos where the video has had a comment on it literally saying something like "I can't say the word because I'll be demonetised", or even where the person speaking has interrupted their flow to explain it mid-sentence.
It could just be that YeahMad doesn't care about the demonetisation and is willing to accept the revenue loss in order to say whatever they want?
Anyway, if it's not actually true, the belief is clearly so widespread that many, many channels have now adopted these alternative ways of talking which have been copied by their viewers in day to day speech now.
Yeah, I've seen videos about drugs or sex work where they tiptoe around the words because they don't want to be demonetised or suppressed (don't pop up in recommendations nearly as much) - the videos will still be available, but those crucial first few days can be heavily impacted.

They're arguing it's unconstitutional for the US government to ban their app.
TikTok is not the government, so they can limit certain speech on their app without it being unconstitutional, because there's no laws against a private entity limiting what people are allowed to say on their platform.
Because major companies paying for adverts do not like it when their ad plays over the top of a video glorifying anything controversial, such as suicide. Consequently many social media/video platforms simply decided to ban any mention of these topics as a cheapnajd easy way of policing it without having to expend actual human effort on reviewing videos.

Free speech is the freedom to express yourself without government censorship, except in certain situations.
This doesn't apply to private companies.
We shouldn't accept it online due to censorship.
Tiktok is one of the if not the most influential platforms out there at the moment, with a direct line into the minds of millions of adults and especially impressionable children.
They will and absolutely do pick up language from said platforms, and so people will start self censoring (even when they don't realise they're doing it) offline as a result.
‘High-end’ and ‘gentrification’: both the terms themselves, which are cringe, but the attitudes they embody and their social consequences.
I am an outlier because I work in the property sector in London but hate gentrification and the monoculture it creates. I believe that one of the traditional strengths of London was being a ‘collection of villages’, all (or at least most) of which had a social mix. Replacing working class districts with ‘high end apartments’ and driving out large numbers of young professionals because of high rents is not just socially unjust but shortsighted.
In a previous workplace we had a filing system for our projects which used "MIN" as part of the project reference (as an abbreviation for "Minerals"), followed by a letter. First project of the year was "(Year)-MIN-A".
A colleague of mine called a customer to tell them we were handling their project under the reference "(Year)-MIN-G", but didn't leave a sufficiently long pause between the "MIN" bit and the letter. She was quite embarrassed when she noticed. :-)
No problem. If you can find a way of inserting it into an otherwise innocent conversation, you’ll get some funny looks before you inform people of what it actually is, rather than what it sounds like.

This one is interesting though just because it's a useful word. Lots of languages have a 'plural you' like 'vous' in French. English used to have one and Anglophones do periodically reinvent it, y'all is one example but also many Irish, Scottish, and Northern English will stick an s on to make 'yous'.
‘You’ was the plural, funnily enough. It replaced singular thou. (Well ‘ye’ was the plural; ‘you’ was the accusative declension of it.)
Speaking of places like Northern England having ‘yous’, there’s parts of County Durham where they still say ‘thoo’ for singular you.

I don't hate "ya'll" per se, but as a Scottish person living in Canada where "ya'll" has recently crept over the border, it sounds ridiculous coming out of my accent, and I resent the social pressure to use it. "You guys" is sometimes frowned up in by white, straight, cis people who are looking for something to get annoyed about (lots of those in Vancouver), so I've been trying to bring "youse" back. Most people can figure it out

In a world where everything needs to be abbreviated (apparently), I just don’t get the need to extract an extra syllable out of the very simple and thoroughly satisfactory word ‘dog’.
Admittedly I'm in the US so I don't know if there's an equivalent in the UK, but "dog mom" is a huuuuuge thing here. It's on T-shirts and social media profiles and bumper stickers and all sorts.

Oh yes, dog mum/dad is a thing in the UK too, it's so common that when I go to the vets, they will ask my pets if they're "going to your mummy" when they turn to me for comfort.

Drip being used for being fashionable. It's an instant downvote from me. I play a particular MMO (my name gives it away) and if I see someone saying they need a particular piece of gear for "drip" then my immediate thought is "You are a wanker and I don't want to know you".

Yeah that one just seems confusing. When I first saw people posting pictures of their “fit” on Reddit I thought they were asking for opinions on how well their clothes fit, not the actual clothes themselves.
I’m 18, and I can remember this being said back when I was around 14-15. It’s actually lasted fairly long, considering a lot of slang makes it under a year.
Jobs as in "I have a few jobs to do around the house". If it involves going somewhere then it is "errands" as in " I have a few errands to do this morning so I'll need the car".
That's makes sense, I also use errands for anything involving going outside but things like washing, ironing, cleaning have always been chores to me tbh.
A quick review of etymology will show that most Americanisms are actually middle English words that fell out of favour with a smidgen of Dutch added for whimsy.
It's far more nuanced than that, but in simple terms, we usually invented the word that we mock.
Although if you look at it more deeply, you begin to realise that our language is completely bastardised anyway, and it's our ability as a nation to evolve our language that is the real thing we should be patriotic about.

Game changer and generational talent. People who use these words are very lazy. First how the hell can you have a generational talent every few years. Game changer is such a fucking cliché too. Mansplain and Manflu.
I have no issues with the concept of either, I get it completely. I have very specific issues with these words.
Manflu is now often used to mock men when they are sick. It's not nice that the people you love say "oh it's just Manflu" while you are feeling like absolute shit!
My wife and her mother stopped doing that after the last 2 times. I got angry at them for doing so, and they thought I was. Just being touchy. They are their words when later I tested positive for COVID and spent a week having fever dreams and all sorts (the first time) and when I cut the 11-hour queue in A&E to be admitted to the hospital (the second time)
I really hate mansplain because A. It is the shittest portmanteau I have ever heard, (correctile dysfunction is a much better play on words.) and B. Because it is a nuclear button to win an argument, akin to an ad hominem attack, but more effective. If someone accuses you of mansplaining, your argument is about now how you weren't mansplaining. Fledgling. I know it means “new” but I always think it sounds like something that’s struggling, about to die. Saw a wedding photo business called “Fledgling Photography” and couldn’t think of a worse name. Right away you’re telling people you’re new. When you’re not new it won’t make sense. To me it makes me think you’re struggling.
"It is what it is". Common in too many game videos. Normally associated with a situation where they recognise there is a problem but just can't be arsed to fix the problem. However, the same ADHD riddled individuals (I am one too but not for symmetry, go figure) will obsess over something inconsequential has to be symmetrical or they will burst into an unsymmetrical ball of flames.
