Who are you petty jealousy of?

Get enough physical *and* mental stimulation during the day. Cool, dark room. Comfortable bed, with whatever level of support you need. Good pillows. Good sleep hygiene (bed is for sex and sleep and *nothing else* - no sitting up in it working, no laying on it watching TV or doom-scrolling your phone). You need to train your brain that "laying in bed means sleep now" and nothing else. Consistent bed time and night-time routine, so your brain has plenty of cues that it's time to fall asleep before your head hits the pillow. Don't go to bed until you're tired, and go to bed as soon as you're tired; don't lay there getting frustrated until you're ready to sleep, but don't get overtired before you lay down either. Avoid screens (in particular the huge amount of blue light they kick out) for an hour or two before bed. Avoid caffeine or other stimulants for at least 3-5 hours before bed *unless* you have ADHD, in which they may actually help you sleep. If you're a worrier (someone who lays down to sleep and immediately starts thinking of all the things they have to do the next day, or all the things in their life that are concerning them) then try an audiobook or a video playing on your phone that you can *listen* to (*not* watch) to distract you can keep your thoughts on happier things until you drift off (and make sure you've disabled auto-play so it stops playing once the content is over). Most people can cheerfully violate most or all of these rules and still drop off without any problems, but if you have trouble getting to sleep, run down the list and try *all* of them until you regularly fall asleep easily, and then start experimenting by disregarding them one at a time.
