Olympics ready to ban transgender athletes from all women’s events

Transition changes biology. Trans women are at a disadvantage compared to cis women due to low T levels. You think it's unfair because you're ignorant and hostile to being informed, not because you somehow magically know better than the people who are actually affected and actually study this shit.

You also just realistically can't make a place unrobbable while still being a place you can visit and look at stuff in. The real deterrent is the fact that the valuables stored in a museum are basically impossible to sell. Not for their actual value.

These terms already exist and mean something different. I'm gynosexual. This means I like femininity. I'm attracted to most women and feminine enough men.

Mm. By a ton of metrics trans women literally are biological women. There's no way to exclude them that wouldn't also exclude a number of cis women. People don't get how much hormones change.

This is old research by LLM standards, and notably very little seems to be done to try and create those world models in LLMs. There's an assumption that they will appear automatically but I don't think that's actually true.

The only thing ai developers are experts on is AI development, which is a black box they don't understand. I keep that in mind every time a claim is made about AI capabilities and how easy it is for someone who doesn't know a field to mistake confidence (which LLMs inherently exude) for competence.

National identities are fairly new and not even all nations have them. Australia has basically no national identity. There's a strong argument to be made that Americans not only don't have one, but that they actively reject the idea in favour of state or ancestry based identities which are generally looked down on by the actual citizens of the nations they identify with. It's not like national identity is our default state. The fact that it's not natural is a big part of why people feel so alienated from their own countrymen these days. No national identity but the pretence of one has replaced their actual "tribal" identity.

Russia to grow faster than all advanced economies says IMF

ASpaceOstrich@reddit

Western economies are doing terribly. We've been in a horrible death spiral for my entire life. With multiple once in a generation financial catastrophes and wages stagnated the whole time. The way economists measure the quality of an economy is clearly fundamentally wrong. And I hope that will get recognised at some point, but nobody wants to be the Rube who has to come clean about how badly we're doing and have been doing. Elon Musk making more money doesn't actually mean the economy is growing. It just means more money is siphoned out of the real economy and into the rich peoples hoards. Sure, they're technically investing it into various companies that have never been profitable and push out real competition, but none of that money is driving the real ground level economy any more. You get paid less every year, prices on many things drop in order to hide the fact that the economy has gone to shit, but certain things don't drop, and now nobody can afford a house.

I wonder how it must feel to be attached to your own nation in a way that you view what happened to it in the past as if it happened to you. I've never felt that attachment. I've seen films about tragic events in my countries history. And the fact that they were about my country had zero effect. The past is a foreign country. But honestly even if it wasn't the past, I just don't feel that national connection. I don't think people are weird for it. I'm obviously the odd one out here. But I can't imagine what it would be like.

That's not how it works. Just trust that you don't know enough to know why it's not a valid punishment option. If they want to do that, they can legally reinstate banishment as a punishment. They're currently just being lazy cunts unwilling to clean up their own mess or to deal with radicalisation of children in their country.

I feel like any military strategy that revolves around uncontested control of the skies inherently can't function against an opponent that isn't significantly inferior in tech. Unless the entire strategy is based on gaining air superiority, which then automatically wins the conflict, such a strategy only works if you're bullying a weaker nation.

programmers with ADHD, how do you actually sit and design your programs

Posted by PurpleClover42@reddit | learnprogramming | View on Reddit | 170 comments

ASpaceOstrich@reddit

My biggest struggle is YouTube addiction. Not addicted to shorts or trashy content, I'm just a greedy fuck and my subscription list puts out an easy 6+ hours of high quality content every day. Second biggest is general ADHD. I can only reliably get one thing done each day, and that's been dedicated to putting in at least a little bit of drawing time each day. Even medicated I'm operating on disability levels. What sucks about the scholarship is that my adhd was much better back then, and the YouTube addiction was also not really present. But I was so severely depressed after switching from my media course to programming (which meant losing my friends and the studio environment that gave me energy and social interaction) plus the state of the world at the time (2016), that I quite literally can't remember that year. The year began and I was crushing the course. Doing the extra mile and feeling great. Then nothing. And vague memory of late in the year with me failing every unit and struggling. That was the perfect opportunity to learn for me with the ideal environment and potential contacts and my body blew it while my mind was AWOL. Maybe a Udemy or one of those free online Harvard courses might help. But relying on myself to stay on track will be difficult. I can't separate my home computer from a work one.
