Is David Attenborough the only current national treasure?

sweetpicklemilk@reddit

I think footballers can be tricky because there’s then a difference between a British national treasure and an English one. There’s far too much animosity for the England football team for parts of Britain to consider them National Treasures.

What to buy for a new mother?

Agreed! I’m also going to sound like really unappreciative, but everyone came round within 3 to 10 weeks. Wanting cups of tea, and giving gifts for baby that are all for between 6 months to 18 months. So I have piles of gifts, which is amazing but none of which I can use, and I’ve honestly not had time to sort out. Vouchers, visits, coffee offers.

What to buy for a new mother?

sweetpicklemilk@reddit

A lot of people say this is great, but it’s really dependent on the person. I’ve just had a baby, and the thought of even my mother doing my washing or cleaning my house brings me out in a cold sweat. It’s a really nice idea though, but it really depends on whether that’s something you think they would appreciate as an individual.

What to take to the hospital for childbirth? (male edition)

Posted by mxpxtx@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 59 comments

sweetpicklemilk@reddit

I’d say the main things are snacks. Wear decent comfortable clothes and shoes. My partner wasn’t allowed to stay if I wasn’t in active labour and visiting was done by 10pm, so keep in mind you might be there for labour but once she’s admitted to a post labour ward, depending on the hospital/area and time of day, you might be packed off anyway.

Yes! I sometimes treat myself to a “very Merry Unbirthday” where I just treat myself to a good time. An activity I’ve wanted to do, or meal out. Started doing it solo too.

Is it warmer in the South?

Posted by InterestingServe3958@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 16 comments

sweetpicklemilk@reddit

Yes, the south is warmer than the north of the UK. This is due to factors such as the South being closer to the equator, thus the sun is at a higher angle. Also due to altitude of the northern part of the uk, being a higher altitude and temperatures drop the higher the altitude. Further examples also include sunrise and sunset being earlier in the counties of Kent, than in the Highlands.

Are there any misscarriage support groups specifically for young/single women?

Posted by thisisapa33word@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 29 comments

sweetpicklemilk@reddit

A lot of the groups mentioned already are great, there is wide range of ages and relationship backgrounds. So please don’t let that put you off from getting in touch with them if you’re needing support. Older women that had losses young but are now maybe in their 50s and 60s might still use some of the support tools.

I actually got a single player RPG (like DND) for a birthday and it was a great present. Something like [Twisted Cryptids](https://amzn.eu/d/5xnkJ03) or Colostle You could also go for a bit more generic, like a dark sense of humour mug and some fluffy socks (not too girly).

I regret going for a promotion in work. It just gave me nothing but stress and anxiety. It led to me being bullied by a manager and I’ve nearly had two mental breakdowns over it as well, because it had me questioning my overall character and integrity.

Agree something inexpensive. Do not spend a lot of your hard earned cash on your supervisor. A bottle of alcohol, a pair of socks, a box of chocolates. (Not all of these, one of these). That should be all.
