What’s the worst gift you’ve ever received?

One of my aunts back in the 70s used to give all the nieces and nephews odd Christmas presents that were clearly her cast offs. It was a Christmas ritual for us getting together to see what she’d chosen for us. I remember getting a bottle of shampoo and my sister got a half full bottle of perfume.

My dad did the same thing when I was learning how to drive many years ago when I was 17. I stalled in the middle of the road trying to turn right into our road, when this bloke came blasting up behind me in his car shouting and swearing unable to get past. I was driving one of those old Citroens with the awkward hand brake and I just couldn’t coordinate everything quickly and had started crying. Eventually did it. My dad got out and ran off up the road. Turned out he knew the bloke and where he worked, my dad was a policeman, old school. When dad came home he just said something about not being able to eat solids for a while.

You have £1000 to spend on a "treat", something just for you. What do you buy?

Talking about pedigree cats, I’d love to buy another Burmese. I’ve owned two over the years. Dylan a red disappeared I suspect he was stolen and Fenwick a brown I had to have put to sleep because someone had yanked his tail that hard it damaged the nerves and he was partly paralysed . So not much luck on that front 😢 😞

Not me but my daughter. For years, she’s in her early 30s now, she has been having very vivid dreams about airplane crashes. Weirdly within a fortnight an airplane crash is reported. The most recent coincided with the Southend crash. Coincidence maybe.

What film traumatised you as a child?

It wasn’t a film but a series that used to be on tv during school holidays. Alternating with Belle and Sebastian, White Horses and Robinson Crusoe. The Singing Ringing Tree. It was the furry little man, scared the crap out of me.

Yes decorate your home and enjoy it. I’m a widow with grown up kids. I usually spend Christmas on my own. If I’m honest I prefer it. I always decorate and buy festive food etc.

My dad was a policeman and we lived in a house connected to the towns police station. The local court house was just behind us. My friends whose dad was also a policeman and I used to climb up onto the roof and watch through the windows of the courtroom.

I trained as a nurse back in the 1980s. That side didn’t really bother me, was part of helping someone who was unwell. I left when I qualified and never returned. Understaffed and underpaid.

Why do people have to be so bloody vile. It’s beyond me. I can sympathise with your parents. I’ve lived in a housing association house for nearly 25 years now and for the last 10 have had to put up with various crap from my unpleasant next door neighbours. The people on the other side moved because of them and they weren’t even joined onto them 😂. I spend most of my time wearing earplugs or headphones lol. Just hearing the mothers twangy pigeon voice sets me on edge.

I totally agree. I used to work in a pathology lab before I had to give up work. It was bliss just dealing with body fluids and body parts not the people they came from 😂
