How much is your weekly shop in 2026?

Posted by Gustifer05@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 320 comments

lisstrem@reddit

This was my downfall. I’ve recently started doing monthly shops (about £100) with strictly fruit/veg/milk and bread top ups only. I feel like we’re spending way less. The only effort comes from planning the meals. r/whatsinyourcart is a great sub to see what others are spending

Exactly this! It’s gets easier to mask but I still can’t visit where we scattered her ashes. I have a couple of tattoos now for grandma which really helps me

Your last paragraph is so important. It makes me sad when people have grandparents still going yet don’t make an effort to see or call them. Enjoy it whilst you have it and make the memories

Piqued my interest. Been without a grandparent for longer than I had one, and I really miss her. Working in the public sector the living age is rising so wondered what/if there is an average

Are new builds really that much more expensive than old houses?

Posted by DescriptionFuture851@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 309 comments

lisstrem@reddit

When we were looking at buying our house, area was more important to us. We looked at a new build and with our mortgage in principal could not even afford the cheapest (and smallest) new build available. We looked a little further out and bought a 1900s build, three bed, end terraced with a back garden over 100m long and lots of scope for improvement(but able to move straight in) We lucked out and I think we wouldn’t easily entertain the idea of new builds if we were to move

What happens if you have piercings with emergency MRI?

Posted by n-a1968@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 141 comments

We had an incident recently (am a nurse) where a patient was unable to remove their piercings but needed an MRI. They ended up covering the pierced area with an ice pack (who knew) so it was safe to perform the scan

How clean, messy, cluttered or dirty is your home?

Posted by Dangerous-Use7343@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 191 comments

lisstrem@reddit

2 of us and try to do a quick tidy (less than an hour) each week and then a deeper clean (2 hours) alternate weeks. We’re both pretty tidy people and clean up after ourselves so the weekly ‘top up’ isn’t too much of a bother. Just been redecorating so obviously the rest of the house has been a bit of a state but finished it off today and now getting back to a bit of normality

Is it normal to leave a handover note when you sell your house?

We had a few pages of a notebook filled in with the previous owners story (they got engaged the day they moved blah blah) then a page on the trees in the garden, a page detailing the heating systems (hive and some bathroom wall heating thing), where the stopcock was. They also left a card and a bottle of Prosecco Was really helpful

Homemade Nando’s medium chicken with tender stem broccoli (garlic and lemon), fried halloumi and some garlic bread on some cheesy rolls I found. Here’s hoping it’s worth the effort!

From the UK, went on holiday around America and ended in San Francisco. Had a morning at Alcatraz and hear my name called. Turn around and it is someone I work with from the hospital who also worked on the same ward as me!

Do “military brats” exist in the UK?

Posted by Ok_Fly9550@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 300 comments

lisstrem@reddit

I’m a scaley brat. Dad was in the RAF, went to the local primary that was majority RAF kids so the turnover was pretty high. I didn’t move around as dad didn’t get posted anywhere exciting after I was born. Know lots of other military kids from growing up and the relationship between military families (I think) is a much stronger bond.

My mate sends me voice messages now and again. I hate them. Being a bit deaf doesn’t mean I can understand them as easy as it written in text. Also I’m not always in the right place to listen to them, I’m not listening at work so will always reply after. If they message I’ll reply as soon as I’m able
