My situation is very similar to yours. I’m just not sure how I feel about pulling the trigger and getting married. It wouldn’t change our relationship anyway from how it is now other than maybe we would cohabitate. But my youngest is 14 and has four more years of high school still and I would make that move until he was on his next phase of life

Dating apps make casual sex so easy now. When times get tough the grass can be always greener. I did my thing for a while, but to be honest after being a relationship guy for so long, it began to feel very empty to me. But that path is what led me to my relationship now.. I needed to walk it first to see what was out there. Doing so makes me a better partner in this current relationship. Walking the dark side and seeing what people are capable of is insane. If you sit in the no judgment zone, they will tell you all the things that they’ve got going on with other others and the hustles that they have in doing so. It truly blew my mind.

For those of you that ended up divorced. Did you remarry? I don’t think I will ever get married again…

Yeah, I think it’s hard for others to understand an empathize and unless they’ve lived with a person like this. When your kids want to physically distance themselves from their mother “for their own mental health” it’s really a shame. I take no joy in it. I was never looking to try and “win” this way. I just wanted all my kids to be happy. We had some really happy times when they were little kids. It’s when they become teens that all the issues arise because she can’t control and manipulate them anymore and they cease through the whole charade.. if you were to look at social media, you would think we were the happiest family that ever walked the face of the Earth.

That is truly what’s really important and was my focus as well when I first left. The kids recognize effort. When they get older and have a more adult perspective, they truly appreciate the lengths you went for their happiness

It’s complicated. I think sometimes we choose a partner that reflects our parents a little bit because that’s what we were comfortable living in and don’t know any better. The emotional ups and downs are just the way life is because you don’t have another perspective to reflect on.

That’s great. The irony is when you focus on yourself and are happy with who you are, it seems others radiate towards that and want to be in your sphere because your energy is so positive and you’re just happy with life in general.

When a person is so unhinged that they refuse therapy and refused to take accountability for what they’ve done to their children, it tells you all you need to know about someone with personality disorders. When they are actively doing it now to your 14-year-old son(who most often want to protect their mother) and he only wants to live with his Dad. It’s very telling of the up-and-down nature of living with someone like that. You literally have no idea what you’re talking about. But thanks for the thoughtful. Insightful reply🤙🏻

I feel this. I’m technically still married. The house is in my name and she’s unable to refinance despite the amount of money I gave her every month just to be cool and keep everything smooth for my two that still are in high school and move back-and-forth between us during the week. Tax wise I’m in the same boat. Medical as well.

Haha. I didn’t go into major details because it would be too long. I don’t have that problem with accountability. I have great relationship relationships with all my children especially the ones that are grown-ups now. That alone should tell you all you need to know.

I moved from the Bay Area in CA to Indianapolis in 2001. We built a new 1800 sq ft home for $122,000. $3k down. That same home in CA, even in those days would have been $1,000,000 easy. Way before the 2008 crash obviously

How does your revelation take away the great times we had as teenagers in the 90s? I’m not disagreeing that we’ve had an engineered and planned attack on the soul and family unit. It’s obvious. None of that changes the music that was made and enjoyed across all genres. The genuine time we spent with friends doing an endless amount of shit without distraction from social media or our phones. The simplicity of just going to house parties and getting fucked up without it being ruined by being shared on social media. The fights we got into defending our friends that didn’t get recorded. I could go on and on.
