When was the last time you listened to an album?

Agreed, though I do stream when I’m out and about as well as listen to my records and cds at home. My iPod packed in years ago, and a pair of earphones that plug into the charging point on my phone works wonders.

I remember an ex being almost offended when I told them I’d never had a dominos. They instantly got us one and it was the first time I’d ever eaten pizza with a tiny little pot of sauce, which is now a must.

It’s not remotely exotic but people are always surprised when I tell them I didn’t try mayonnaise until I was in my 20s. We just never had it at home, the closest thing we had was salad cream. I never tried kfc till my 20s either, I just never had much fast food growing up.

My partner does and it infuriates me. It only takes a few minutes to warm them up in a saucepan and I can add whatever I like and thicken them up a bit. They never get to make beans if we’re both eating the same thing. 🤢

Is the policing in Netflix’s “Adolescence” accurate?

There’s another video of unarmed British police confronting a man wielding a sword. They eventually calm him down and subdue him and the comments from Americans in the comment section are mad. They just want them to shoot him and are laughing at unarmed police confronting a man with a sword who they took in safely. That’s the definition of great police work and they just don’t seem to get it. The guy in the hotel was white but there’s even worse police videos of killings of black men. One shooting an unarmed man at the wheel for no reason, another cop shot a black guy running away from in the back! Our police have issues, I’m sure every country’s police do but those videos make me appreciate ours to a degree.

Yeah, if you ever see police videos the US police really seem to lack the ability to de-escalate a situation, whereas I’ve watched great de-escalation from British police. Obviously individuals vary and there’s bad police everywhere, but it seems something our force has focused on. There was one specific video of American police arresting a guy who was seen with guns in his hotel room, they have the guy in the hall unarmed and basically have no idea how to arrest him, they give him confusing commands and are all terrified of him, the guy was literally crying and begging for his life, they ended up shooting him to death when he made an error with their confusing commands. It was impossible to believe they were police officers, it was like they had no idea how to solve the situation despite him being unarmed and complying completely. https://youtu.be/7Ooa7wOKHhg?si=ieNaY0Qqkp1LrzGT

The current young generation do seem a bit stat obsessed in a way my gen wasn’t, I’ve noticed that myself. Perhaps it’s just access to data that we didn’t have but I’m not a fan.

I’d be interested to see those demographics regarding motd. I think it might surprise you. I’d bet it’s an older cohort than you’d imagine. I very much doubt many 25 and below are tuning in rather than watching games online these days.

I grew up on a council estate in Salford and we played cricket at school. We played rugby union rather than rugby league too despite our local side being a rugby league team. I think you have an odd idea of what makes something posh. Not all cricket fans are posh. I drive a bus for a living and I picked a bloke up on his way to work at about 4am two nights ago and he was listening to tms out loud on hai radio because we discussed the score, I’m pretty sure he wasn’t posh either. Listening to tms isn’t a posh thing to do. And you may well quote statistics about football but I can guarantee you that most people attending football matches these days are not working class given the cost and competition to get tickets.

So nothing about listening to cricket on the radio in and of itself is posh? I see. I’ve been listening to test match special for years and I’m in no way posh.

Nothing I can find says that. It says he was born in Florida and spent time here growing up, but you may well be right, but him being born in the US makes him a US citizen, so he’s as much American as he possibly British.
