Would you go to a “pay by the hour” comfy cafe spot?

Posted by OddSign2828@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 112 comments

beaches511@reddit

Board game cafes use this approach. You usually pay per person per hour used and get to use the table and play games from their selection. Food and drinks are on top. They often do promotions or membership to reduce table hire costs and have fluctuating prices based on days and weeks used (weekends are more than mid week mornings etc)

Over summer I might now every couple of weeks. I did one mow this year mid march and before that it would have been early October. Both of those the ground was pretty damp and muddy still. My family also suffers from hayfever so if we cut the grass then we can't use the garden for that day.

How much should i charge a friend to house sit and dog walk for a week.?

Posted by PozzieMozzie@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 296 comments

beaches511@reddit

Our dog sitter charges £40 for an all day stop over. That's the dog staying at theirs all day, feeding and walks. Overnight is £80 (two days). So maybe something in the region of £150 - £200? Not so low that your friend will be insulted and can feel like they are paying you, but certainly well below market rate.

You could get the train from Birmingham to Tipton and then get a taxi from Tipton (BCLM is about a mile away). Trains are roughly every half hour.

Beamish and the Black country living museum are generally fairly similar. Whilst in different locations the general premise is similar. Might be worth while reconsidering doing both to gain extra time (and have to travel less).

What would i be fighting for? bills are high, home ownership an impossibility for many, inequality is rife. healthcare is getting harder to get. Would i even have my job afterwards or would the company i work for replace me straightaway? The social contracts of the past are rapidly being eroded to line the pockets of the wealthy. At best i come back with only mental trauma.

Why does seem like not many brits talk about black sabbath/ ozzy?

Posted by Clear-Letter-5294@reddit | AskABrit | View on Reddit | 51 comments

beaches511@reddit

I like my metal and alternative music. And i know which of my friends and co workers do. I also know which genres they prefer. I'll usually mention any gig i've been to recently and i certainly mentioned watching the final sabbath show (i'm a brummy so extra special.) But i don't tend to talk about bands with out it being related to the conversation. It tends to be a bit more current too. i'll mention albums by artists that are new. and unfortunately sabbath are old now, its been 13 years since the last album and a lot longer since the classics. They'll come up occasionally but there it a lot of other stuff to talk about.

Yes, my house mate and best friend from uni was on the interview panel for a job once. Just acted like it was a normal interview during questions and made sure to cover everything that was needed.

Something practical but fun for the house? Portable speaker for the garden/kitchen/ when you are decorating? Some picture frames for multiple pictures and get a load printed from your phones, go through them together to pick the ones that make you smile. Helps make the house yours. The spares you can gift to relatives. Also won't cost the whole £150.

Why are dogs suddenly all wearing jumpers?

Posted by Mondays-fundays@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 470 comments

I love ours to bits, but they are a weird breed. Very lazy, but will go berserk for about 5 mins a day. They can have a lot of issues (separation anxiety, nervousness, no recall) and rescues need to be taught how to dog. Lots of work but very worth it. Greyhounds are perfect is you want a needy cat that's the size of small horse with the brain of a stupid chicken.

Why are dogs suddenly all wearing jumpers?

Posted by Mondays-fundays@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 470 comments

beaches511@reddit

My greyhound needs it to keep him warm. Thier skin is thinner than ours and he hasn't got much fur. My general rule is if I need a winter coat so does he. He refuses to walk for long if it's too cold. He also enjoys the extra protection he gets when he wees on the holly bushes. Most dogs in the park aren't wearing them unless it gets to freezing. Last week with the wind and rain the water proof coats were out in force as it keeps them warmer and stops them being so wet/damp all day.

And how she met my great grandad (cared for him as a nurse after he was gassed In WW1). But nothing else. My grandfather is still alive at 99 but never talks about them, even if asked.

Why don’t you shop at Aldi or Lidl? Where do you shop instead?

Posted by CheesecakeExpress@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 141 comments

beaches511@reddit

We do both. Aldi and Lidl are further away and busier. I need to drive there and fight for a parking spot. Which takes more effort and planning. Whilst the selection is and quality is decent they do lack some areas and items for our choices (vegan/veggie) or have less reliable stock. Sainsbury's on the other hand is walkable and has a large enough carpark that parking isn't an issue when doing a big shop. They also have longer opening hours and a much larger selection. Being about 4 times the shop floor space.

Would you expect to have an inedible item at a (veg/vegan) restaurant taken off the bill?

Also at home with a nervous/terrified dog. Extra nervous today as fireworks went off at 11am and again at 3pm before it was even dark. We've had them all night as expected but the ones on random nights after 11 and during the day are making it much harder to prepare for. Mid week also extends it to the weekends either side. At least Diwali and Halloween were the same night which reduced the amount of celebrations days down.

I used to hate it. At uni I got a job doing campus tours as it paid well and happened in the day time. That also forced me to talk to people. And as I did so many it got me in with the organisers who asked me to do school visits with them. And then open day talks (200 people, 6 times a day for 3 days) That got me out of hating it and into enjoying it. I then got various jobs involving training and public speaking doesn't scare me at all. Probably one of the most confident at doing it on my team. Forcing myself to do it so much and practising definitely helped.
