Not necessarily. In Scotland, tradition was to name your first-born son after your father to honour him. So often happened that names just ran in the family like that, for eldest sons anyway. (First-born daughters tended to be named after the mother’s mother, second-born sons after mother’s father etc. so name’s definitely stayed in the family. )
