Ani DiFranco, Fiona Apple, and Alanis Morissette were my fantasy white ladies of the 90s! Their music stirred stuff in my asshole soul that I didn’t even know was there at the time. I blame modern toxic masculinity in GenX/Xennials on dudes who didn’t pay attention to those insanely talented songwriters.

Losing friends yet?

This is one of the few things that makes me feel old. I’ve lost two of my best friends in the last 5 or so years; and, outside of 1 that lives within a half hour of me, the remaining ones are scattered around the country. I’m (according to my wife & friends) an extreme extrovert and super social, yet still have trouble making actual friends as an adult. It’s quite frustrating and, personally, haven’t run into anyone from previous (non-veteran) generations that had similar experiences.

Worst live show you've been to?

Kings of Leon in 2010 at Riverport in St. Louis for the “Pigeongate” show. Pigeons in the rafters had apparently partaken in White Castle and Ex-Lax and shit all over both openers and KoL, to the point that Kings of Leon cancelled the show 2.5 songs in. While the pigeon shit was definitely gross, the lead singer was also apparently drunk, mumbling and stumbling around the stage; a rumor that got major legs when an anonymous stagehand called into KSHE and said the band had been at the venue drinking since 11am. Venue apologized and offered either refunds or free tickets to their apology show, I took the free tickets and was underwhelmed yet again.

Today I’m 40

45 here. I still don’t feel like a grownup or old. I attribute it to an amazing fellow xennial wife (6 years younger), and a stunning lack of maturity. If you’d asked me about being 45 when I was 25, I’d have laughed in your face that I’d even be alive…much less more mentally stable than I was at that age. I definitely look back and think of how much better I could’ve been, but I think that’s the wisdom that supposedly comes with age.

What “old age problem” do you have (if any) you didn’t expect at 40-44?? Let’s keep it to minor inconveniences and not too heavy (cancer, heart disease, etc)

Where you a fan of Beakmans World, or Bill Nye the Science Guy ?

Beakman was a more entertaining show for me, but Bill Nye is a legit scientist while Paul Zaloom (Beakman) is a puppeteer. That being said, both shows were fun and legitimately entertaining while being educational.

Lafayette, LA here. They were definitely a thing (that I couldn’t afford). I remember when I saved up enough chore money to buy a pair, they were pretty much out of style.

Just found this subreddit...

Can't tell if this is a regional or generational thing: Did you all grow up believing that wearing a band's shirt to their concert was deeply uncool?

My wife (1983 Xennial) broke me (1977 Xennial) out of this mindset by pointing out one of the myriad things I believed based on a throwaway line in a relatively obscure movie.

So how you doin'? I mean, physically.

I was maintaining decent, but not great shape. However, a rotator cuff surgery and the lack of ability to stay active for almost 6 months has wrecked it. Packed approximately 30 pounds on in 6-8 months and now I’m dreading the road back.
