Feeling Betrayed Before a Possible Layoff

I would wait till lay you off, then take two weeks off. Search for dwindling jobs for next two years. Dude! Brush up resume and search jobs now. You should be doing that past two months.

Rant: I DO NOT WANT TO READ EMAILS WRITTEN BY LLMs!

At the management level, their interaction and use of AI is replying emails with LLM. It's their playground, since they don't do coding, documentation or architecture. They get overly excited to use the AI the only thing they can do. I hope they read this post, see how their emails looks and feels like on reader's end.

What is wrong with Microsoft?

VeryRareHuman@reddit

You hit the right points. Microsoft is pissing off users with this web version of Office software since 2019. Copilot became the "IT" show up everywhere...in notepad? Really? There are no new exciting features or improvements in Windows Server, Active Directory. Microsoft 365 (new name) is web of tangled mess. Like OP said, where are the apps and last used docs list...instead copilot show up.

I agree on doing your job well. It will help to earn and keep a good name. But it's not going to save on eliminating the existing positions. I would start looking on the side.

It's something I like to do and enjoy. I didn't work on OnPrem servers and data centers for past 10 years. Life and work is still enjoyable. I did not see the number of sysadmins reduced, in fact my team increased size. I guess it depends on where you work.

So what has AI done for you?

VeryRareHuman@reddit

Went on a week long vacation. Asked Copilot what did I missed from coworkers and my manager. Gave me an awesome summary from emails and Teams chat. It saved at least two hours of my time. Copilot in Teams meeting is now a necessary thing. Meeting summary and to-do list to attendees is fantastic. Documentation..I create documentation faster than ever. Research on new technology, products and services. And obviously scripting..I almost never start any script from scratch anymore. It also helps me to understand scripts written by ex-colleagues. I never understand why people hate AI. Try saying "I hate AI" in an interview, see how it goes Every company I know is trying to use AI as much as they can.

What would you do if you were forced to go into office more?

Posted by Allcaponero@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 335 comments

Most companies have already returned 5 days of office work. RTO is all the rage. They didn't like the employees'control over demanding WFH jobs and employees moved to super remote locations. Now they are flexing their muscles. New hires are automatically WFO, or not hired at all. I am trying to get used to going to Office like pre- pandemic days. Traffic sucks at times. Try demanding WFH, you will be out in the next layoff. I am feeling for people who moved to other states and harder to find work.

Scripting, debugging, documentation, Teams meeting facilitator, summerizer Teams chat, general search (replaced googling and binging), find the information from a help/wiii site, copilot answering things I communicated months/years ago. So you are still living in 2000's.

Yes I can write without LLM help.but what's the point? If there is a tool that helps me, I am going to use it. I use LLMs every day scripting, rewrite the old scripts, debugging, etc., I said use it as much as you want. Double check the script at times manually.

It is 2025. Is there a viable alternative for Microsoft Visio yet?

You coming off like an instant old man who hates new things. We can do both, working on existing security lags and use AI wherever you can. Think of a security software/product you want to sell (or buy). You would think if the sales guy says our product doesn't use AI at all, anyone buy it in this day. Still point is product should use AI where it is helpful or make things better. GenAI/LLMs are great for me to learn the security jargons, research the vulnerablities or just general technology we never used before. Couple of months ago I created a game plan to improve a security blindspot we found.

I say " Adapt or be irrelevant". It is not snarky or making fun of you. It is what it is in IT world. Keep adapting to the technology (and the culture). I live in PowerShell all day long. Love how easy it is. But some products are all GUI, we have to deal with it.

The "Windows App" is the worst rename in a long line of bad and senseless renames from Microsoft.

Am I the only one that actually prefers Windows platform over Linux?

Posted by Specialist-Hat167@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 1206 comments

VeryRareHuman@reddit

25 years and counting as sys admin. Windows is always my thing, managed Microsoft server products ever since from my first job. I don't hate Linux, would never use it for any purpose not personally or in a professional environment. It never worked out for me. I tried to make a scheduled job server with Linux server with my PowerShell scripts. It did work okay. But I switched back to Windows because of OS usability and knowledge.

What do you actually use AI for at work? (And where does it fail?)

Posted by theaimorning@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 139 comments

VeryRareHuman@reddit

Replaced Internet search with LLMs PowerShell scripting (develop, debug,) Copilot at work finds anything in the email or Teams chat (ask a question e.g., what did the person X said about issue Y? When was my last email to this address?) Meeting facilitator and summerizer (cannot go back to the old method of hand writing notes and forgetting what was discussed) Agents to ticketing and documentation (wiki and SharePoint) answer questions to users and find answers faster than humans Things are bit productive lately I feel.

How much say

Try Google workspace for a while and come back to Microsoft 365. You will not complain like this. What feature roll out you didn't like. Have you used copilot for anything?

Has anyone's org *actually* seen a benefit from 365 Copilot?

VeryRareHuman@reddit

Here is the list of things I using copilot license * lots of PowerShell coding, debug code, rewrite the code in different languages * Teams meeting - note taker and summary * if I joined a Teams group chat in the middle, Copilot summerize the group chat * Get Information about anything I discussed in the past in email or Teams or in SharePoint * Extract text from images * Learn new stuff like the currently rolling out a software product or cloud service or security incident * Generate Documentation (Wiki, and how-tos, and run books) Now we are working on agents to different products we use (Jira, Github, etc.,)

Has anyone's org *actually* seen a benefit from 365 Copilot?
