Best car you've ever driven / worst car you've ever driven? (or truck, SUV, vehicle, whatever)

TemperatureLumpy1457@reddit

Worst is our 2018 Subaru Outback. Bought new August 11, 2018 maintained according to the factory schedule and it still cost me many thousands in repairs so far. I will never have another Subaru. I wish I’d bought another Toyota Highlander, which was 12,000 more, but with what I have paid in extra repairs it would’ve paid off that 12,000 Highlander and I would’ve come out even with a better car. All my friends who own Subaru said they’re great and even consumer report said they’re great but boy that has not been my experience. My wife owned one when we got married that her dad bought used for her and I thought it was bad because it was used and perhaps not taken care of. But the used Subaru she had and the new one we now have both are indicators that it’s not a good brand to buy if you want to avoid random problems on the highway and paying lots of expensive extra repairs.

Fellow Americans - have you ever experienced or seen a tornado, and if so, what was it like?

What do I do at car meets if idk anything "under the hood"?

TemperatureLumpy1457@reddit

Maybe you can read magazines at the library to get a few intelligent questions and then when you walk up to the person at the car, you can ask oh is it fuel injected or carburetor if the hood‘s not open or you can just simply say “I’ve been reading and I don’t really understand the difference between fuel injection and carburetion? And a lot of people will be glad to fill you in and you will rapidly learn honestly that’s kind of how I did it.

Why do people, mostly girls, think driving slow makes you a good driver?

Posted by IlIlIIl0@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 67 comments

TemperatureLumpy1457@reddit

I suspect one of the reasons that women drive a little slower is that their depth perception is not quite as good as Men’s. This was discovered when larger groups of women started going into the army and the army couldn’t figure out why they couldn’t hit moving targets so being a government agency, they appointed a task force and figured it out. My sister is a championship shot who paid her way through four years of college on a smallbore shooting scholarship and scored 22nd in the nation at nationals the same week that she got surgery on her elbow and her eye. She is a far better shot than I am, but I am a far better shot at moving targets than she is.

Are there any dislikes or rivalries between the various Christian denominations in America?

Posted by YakClear601@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 1409 comments

TemperatureLumpy1457@reddit

First of all, Catholics are not a denomination they are something completely different. Mormons are currently claiming to be Christians but the founder of Mormonism Joseph Smith, said that “ (Mormons) we are neither Catholic or Christian, but something completely different.” It does amuse me that a number of Christians will not drink, but Jesus turned water into wine and it’s his first miracle. The Bible nowhere condemns drinking it condemned drunkenness. But definitely do avoid drunkenness. It causes problems in the family and for people and of course you end up doing stupid stuff.

Look up Scotty Kilmer on YouTube. He talks about stuff like this all the time. I hear great things about Subaru, but I’ve owned two and they have cost me so much and repairs I would never buy another. I know a lot of people have good luck with them, but as I say 100% of the ones I’ve owned, small sample, two of two have both been very expensive and very unreliable. Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla’s

Subaru. They are supposed to be great, but I have had two one brand new and the maintenance all done at the shop at the top recommended level and less than six years. I put $12,000 worth of repairs into it and this is not including the cost of the 60 and 120,000 mile premium maintenance packages which were about $1200 apiece. I have concluded that Subaru are poor quality, and they certainly are not backed by their manufacturer. I’ll never have another one unless I win it in a raffle and if I win it in the raffle, I’ll be selling it immediately.

Why are electric cars so hated?

Posted by GoofyTron69@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 305 comments

TemperatureLumpy1457@reddit

When you live in the west and it’s a long way to anywhere and you feel like you’re being told. Oh this is the best possible thing when you know it’s not, at least not for you. And when you’re driving cross country for hundreds of miles, who wants to stop and wait for two or three or more hours to recharge a battery. Winters are very cold here and using heat draws your battery down. And all these guys that are promoting electric cars act as if the coal that provides the electricity comes from the electricity fairy. The grid we have now will not support anything like the number of electric cars that they want to bring out, but these are often the same people who are protesting new power houses. It would be one thing if they had windmills and solar, and all these other things that were adequate to replace or supplement powerhouses, but they don’t exist And the number of craftsman carpenters, cement, workers, electricians pipe fitters is nowhere near close to the number needed to build the power houses that we absolutely have to have because our grid won’t support the electric cars. My father was a superintendent on quite a number of powerhouses in charge of big chunks of the electrical part of power houses and I can tell you for a fact that the number of powerhouse electricians out there is a minuscule percentage of the number that we need. I speak only of electricians because I heard my father speak of it multiple times and I myself have worked on two different power houses.

You should be fine. I was around a university with thousands of students studying English as a second language to prepare for getting their college degree in English and I rarely saw any English speaker. Be rude to a non-native English speaker. This was several decades ago, but I think in general Americans often bet fluid in their own language are often don’t care that much about grammar, even when they know it.

TemperatureLumpy1457@reddit

Had a Toyota Highlander and it was a great car. I wrecked it so I bought a Subaru outback brand new model 2018. Got all the recommended maintenance from the dealership at the deluxe level and I’ve still put over $10,000 in repairs that I’ve paid for and I fought for months with them about paying for the screen in the dash after it went bad the second time. I don’t recommend Subaru.

BMW people- Is it just expected to put money into costly BMW repairs?

TemperatureLumpy1457@reddit

I thought a Subaru was a reasonable compromise but bought a new one in 2018 and have spent over $10,000 in repairs so far. And I do all the maintenance religiously that is called for by the maintenance schedule. What I mean to say is I’ve gotten to the age where I paid to have Subaru do it so the maintenance is done pretty much right on time by the Subaru dealership and I’ve still had those repairs. It’s an outback for reference.

Why are medicines in American films always handed out in small orange bottles with white lids?

Posted by Akronitai@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 1188 comments

TemperatureLumpy1457@reddit

My great grandmother had a bunch of medicine bottles and asked kids would go over to her house and we’d play with them while the adults were talking and they were orange and this was 50 years ago or more They’re still orange so many American medication’s are dispensed in these bottles. If you get mail order medication’s with 90 day supply many times they’re an opaque white bottles. Not always but more commonly in my experience, which is just my experience. But the orange bottles yep that’s the real American thing and has been for at least 50+ years

We weren’t allowed to have a microwave because my mom thought that it introduced radiation into the house. My dad was an electrician among other things and I’m sure he knew better, but he either didn’t care enough to argue with my mom or was just indifferent about having a microwave so I got my first microwave in 1992. I was pushing towards 30 at that point.

My sister and I when she was less than one and I was not yet too were taken care of by a lady named Mrs. Weddle in Golden, Colorado. (1961 and 1962.) So in 1974 my father was working on the Alaska pipeline and called my mother saying you need to take the bus and go down to Arkansas from Wyoming to spend Christmas with my family and before my mom could ask him why he said oh no, gotta go. The camp is burning down And so they weren’t able to talk anymore for a while. We ride the bus from Wyoming and somewhere in Kansas or Nebraska. The bus is overcrowded and people are standing in the aisle of the bus and an older lady gets on and there’s no seat so I get up and give her my seat and I’m sitting on a suitcase in the eye on she sits next to my mom. She asked my mom that make sure that she gets off at a certain town as she’s old and has difficulty hearing and paying attention. My mom agrees and a few minutes later they introduced themselves and it turns out this lady is the same Mrs. Weddle that took care of us in Golden Colorado, 14 years before. Just thought it was quite an interesting coincidence active God putting us there to take care of this lady who had taken care of us when we were young
