On the back of a post last month about bands in their prime, which band or soloist absolutely shattered your illusions about them?

Traipsed many hours to Wembley Arena to see Tedeschi Tricks Band. It was like watching them in a rehearsal room. Sounded exactly like the CDs and minimal audience interaction. The sound was so awful, at one point, we discussed pizza toppings and our favourite holiday stories while some TTB background music played. Love their recordings but wouldn’t cross the road to see them live again.

They wash well but I find they go out of shape - the sweatshirts too. I know how to wash at the right temperature, etc but they just don’t hold their shape. Also, seams and hems fray particularly on dresses.

How would you describe life in the UK right now?

It’s been shit since 2008 when the Government bailed out the banks. Then there was unnecessary austerity, the NHS budgets slashed in real terms, constitutional division, people set against people, liars in Government, a pandemic and unreasonable price rises due to European war. And then Mars bars got smaller. How do you think I feel?

It’s because Brits are too buttoned up and repressed to blurt out, ‘Christ! You’re a bloody dickhead, mate!’ but Aussies will happily do it. Brits respect and envy that.

I’ve done full research on our family trees back five and more generations. It’s amazing how many people ‘disappeared’ over the years only to reappear later. I heard one explanation that the side streets sometimes got missed because the census taker would end up in the pub and forget about them! Don’t know how true it is but I imagine it happened!

>mental When I'd say that Twitter was a sewer, I'd get plenty of pushback from people saying that it wasn't and it was my fault for allowing it to affect me. But it IS a sewer and, since I dumped it two years ago, my world view has improved immeasurably.

Those who got a degree and ended up not pursuing a career in it, what are you doing now?

Spike-and-Daisy@reddit

I graduated in law and spent three months post-graduation working out that I really hated lawyers and their billing some client for every six minutes of their working day whatever they were doing. I left, got a tedious job in a local authority, regained my self-esteem, drifted into IT and I've been a successful freelance project manager for two decades now. Getting out of the law remains the best career decision I ever made.

For those who got married December, how cold was your wedding day?

Posted by Asleep_Score123@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 11 comments

Spike-and-Daisy@reddit

28 December. So cold, half the pictures were taken outside in the churchyard with purple hands very much in evidence. The remaining photos were taken inside where it was only marginally warmer. Also, check your car battery before the actual day - cold kills them and this one day you don’t want to be waiting for the AA.

Yes, it’s Irish pronunciation. I’m Irish and I dropped my ‘haitch’ when I moved to England. Then I got pulled up on it when I went back to Ireland! I don’t think the Northern protestants/UK loyalists say, ‘haitch’, though. I believe it’s one of the ‘identifiers’ up there.

Why do people spend £200+ on t-shirts?

Posted by taway93123@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 425 comments

Spike-and-Daisy@reddit

A lot of people want to ‘belong’. For some it’s paying more for a certain make of car and for others, it’s spending a fortune on football merchandise and for others it’s branded T-shirts. The brand owners will charge what they can get away with.
