Do you know what came before that? It was a wooden box, still had a rotary dial, but had a microphone on the front and a separate handheld speaker on a cord you put up to your ear. And six other phones in different houses were on the same number (a party line). Anyone on that line could pick up and listen. Lol.

I wonder if the rest of the crew ever wonder why a teenager was the navigator on the bridge

Canadair CT-133 Silver Star (T-Bird) RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) basic jet trainer, 2 seater version of the Lockheed P-80. Sad that they mounted this one at basically ground level and let it succumb to the elements. I am an RCAF/Canadian Army vet (air/ground comms and nav aids) and these birds were flying during the beginning part of my service.

The Alexsandrov-Kalinin AK-1, a plane that looks like a cheap stage prop, but actually flew.
