Parents of young kids - do any of you not stay with your child until they fall asleep?

Posted by banwe11@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 834 comments

Sea_Corgi_7284@reddit

Nope, don’t see any need and it’s a not a habit we wanted to form. What happens when at some point in time, inevitably they have to go to sleep without you by their side, just seems like making a rod for your own back. Ironically, my 5 year old has said recently he wants me to stay with him for a bit at bedtime, not cos he’s scared or anything he just seems to like me being there for a couple of minutes and I’m happy to chill for a bit anyway so it’s nice if anything and he sleeps mint regardless of whether I do or not. I wouldnt do it solely to get them to sleep at an early age mind.

I remember going to Stockeld Park near Harrogate and there’s one of those inflatable assault courses you crawl through, was sat down waiting for my son to catch up and I looked over and about 1 metre away from me the biggest eff off hornet was just sat there. Actually couldn’t believe how big it was. I’ve never ever ran for my life so fast, after grabbing my lad of course

Just do it anyway, I was in one the other day and 4 people (mostly pensioners) went in and out of them without giving a flying fuck. You’ve got a kid with you and you can’t walk too well. Fuck what anyone thinks

I always found it strange that literally EVERY single line has a laugh track. No matter what, the tiniest thing that isn’t even remotely funny, gets canned laughter behind it. I’ll have it on as background noise though, very casual viewing.

Why is it socially unacceptable for me to not like dogs?

Sea_Corgi_7284@reddit

Yeh I’ve always liked that comparison, they both shit and make a racket etc. ‘so I’ll just get a dog lolololol’ except that’s like a blink and you’ll miss it 6 months of your life and then you get this awesome little person with emotion and nuance, constant growing and changing into their own character, learning new things at a rapid rate,as you also do as a parent, it’s an absolutely colossal event in a persons life that you’d never understand till you become a parent. A dogs a fuckin dog, they’re great, but Christ alive can we stop comparing children to dogs.

lol this is Reddit, if you said the same thing about kids you’d be met with mostly agreeable responses, it’s funny to note how most of the comments are passive aggressive about how you should just keep it to yourself lol. I don’t mind dogs whatsoever but I do fucking hate people who gush over them like they’re the second coming of Christ in canine form.

Men of Reddit - who uses shower gel ONLY?

ITT, people thinking men are disgusting because we don’t use 28 different environment murdering products on ourselves every day to just look/smell normal. Meanwhile I’ll just slap on pigments, binders, fillers, preservatives and fuck knows what else just to look half decent.

Men of Reddit - who uses shower gel ONLY?

Posted by Funky_monkey2026@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 669 comments

Sea_Corgi_7284@reddit

Why’s it revolting? I barely ever use shampoo, like ever, my hair is completely normal and not remotely oily or whatever. wife even says my hair smells nice and can’t believe I just use water and a bit of soap. Only reason your hairs greasy as shit if you don’t use shampoo is cos you’re using it every day and you’re fucked without it. Leave it a few weeks and your body just naturally sorts it out.

When I went to America, everyone just seemed unique, especially how they dressed and especially in New York. Like not one person seemed the same as the next. I feel there’s about 2 or 3 standard attires for men and women here in the uk and everyone vaguely resembles each other.

Do you allow young kids fizzy drinks?

Posted by Flapparachi@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 814 comments

Sea_Corgi_7284@reddit

Got a 5 year old and a 2 year old, 5 year old’s only allowed water and on random occasions a bit of cordial, partys etc a fruit shoot or some other shite cos you can’t avoid it. Same as McDonald’s or (let’s be honest) pretty much any food ‘aimed’ at kids I just don’t see the need for them to have it. 95% of it is shite for your body so why let them when he’s just as happy drinking water. Before I get a mass of ‘omg you’re so boring’ fired at me, I class toys and fun places to go as treats, not some sugary bollocks that makes a fully grown adult become addicted. No need for it in a kids body it’s as simple as that.

Why do so many men not wash their hands in public toilets any more?

Posted by Commercial_Night2867@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 876 comments

Sea_Corgi_7284@reddit

To clarify I do wash my hands after using the bathroom... But really, a blokes knobskin is most likely a lot cleaner than the rest of his exposed skin let’s be honest. It just sits in your trousers 99% of the day. My wife however always says ‘she hasn’t washed her hands, bleugh’ when she comes out the bathroom in a shopping centre or where ever and the stalls themselves are usually grafted. Women are scruffy fuckers too.

Ex-drinkers that endured past dry-January, how did you do it?

Posted by Calm_Highlight_9320@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 105 comments

Sea_Corgi_7284@reddit

2 years ago about a week before new year I just said to myself I’m going to stop drinking for a full year, just for a laugh. No other reason. And this is coming from someone who probably drank every single day for months (if not years) beforehand. Not getting steaming but absolutely have 6 or 7 cans a night every night. Just decided nope that’s it now, and it wasn’t even remotely difficult. If you absolutely 100% WANT to stop, you’ll just do it and it won’t even bother you. After a while someone could offer you a drink at some boring party and you’ll just say nah not bothered. I find it infinitely more difficult to drink just randomly once, and not carry on the next day and the next. I can’t just drink on a Friday night then not drink Saturday. It has to be all or nothing for me sadly. Coming to terms with the fact I’ve got an unhealthy relationship with alcohol and I seriously struggle to do it in moderation is the hard part for me. Currently hungover btw.

To those who have made the transition from manual to automatic cars, is it really better?

Posted by Mr_Coastliner@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 1312 comments

Sea_Corgi_7284@reddit

The only time, and I mean literally the one time my Auto annoys me, is when you’re driving a bit spirited and go into a corner, the car thinks you’re coasting essentially as you’re off the throttle so it automatically bumps up a gear or two, so when you go to accelerate off the corner it’s ALWAYS in a gear too high, so there’s no real throttle response, then you press a bit harder and it gears down and flies off, like there genuinely isn’t as much control in an auto when you’re off ‘quick’, no matter how much people say there is. Other than that one scenario, Auto is better in every single way.

Do you drink and drive?

Sea_Corgi_7284@reddit

Yep, I’ll have two pints and drive, because unlike all the doogoody redditors on here I’m well aware that two pints doesn’t even touch the sides and i’m perfectly fine to drive. Regardless of what the government says is legal. Will I get done if I get caught? Yep. Do I care? Nope. lol. Won’t have much more than two pints, though thats mainly out of principle. I think I could have 5 pints and drive and be completely fine but not worth the risk of being caught. Everyone knows they’ve drunk and drove on a couple pints and they wont admit it. Cos omg so naughty

I bet you didn’t do it again though? I jest, that sounds awful and completely over the top. Reminds me when my friend and I trespassed onto an empty airfield and drove the car round like idiots, when a farmer in a jcb blocked the exit, got out the car and stuck a shotgun through the window in our faces. We didn’t do it again either.

Posted by idontcarepauldummett@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 447 comments

Sea_Corgi_7284@reddit

How could you ever regret it lol, I can’t see any way how it’s a bad thing. It’s like saying did you regret learning to drive at 17 because then you’ve got a car to pay for instead of not having a car to pay for and ‘living’ instead. Either live with your parents or rent, neither of those seem a better option than having your own home, to me at least.

Honestly I just tell them im bloody petrified and please don’t hurt me, just be completely straight up and honest and kinda joke about it. My dentist was cool about it as I’m sure most will be. Also get enough injections in you and they could boot you in the face and you wouldn’t feel it. Another tip is to think of how it would be if you went to the dentist 50 years ago…

Half decent runner here, don’t bother with treadmills, once you’re fit enough to run they don’t even touch the sides cardiovascular wise. You can’t even get out of breath on one. Just run on the road, you’ll get in better shape infinitely faster than a treadmill and nowhere near as boring.

To be honest I’d love to tell my boss I’d won the lottery and still work there, knowing he knows I don’t need the money but still has to pay me would be quite satisfying. The man only cares about the wealth of his peers and would absolutely drive him insane knowing I’m wealthier than him. Just coming to work in a nicer car than him would keep him awake at night.

Lol I agree, there’s just NO chance, unless you’re some legitimate once in a blue moon child prodigy, are you playing something like that in 2 weeks after never playing before, just no. Would take you a week just to get some semblance of coordination going. Now and again my wife will playfully pick my guitar up and try and play the most absurdly easy nothingness and it’ll sound understandably atrocious. You just aren’t developing 1/10 of what it takes to play a megadeth (lol even saying it is ridiculous) tune in two weeks.
