You are transported for a day to 1875 London and given £15 in 19th century coins. What do you buy?

My daughter wants a friend over for a sleepover, the parents of the other child want to come over to my place to "do a full inspection." Is this normal?

What is the one thing you just flat out can’t understand how people can afford?

Lol I thought you wrote where you. Yeah I probably live pretty thrifty. I spend a lot of time homing down my online shopping and do a monthly shop and budget it pretty strictly. You’re right it’s probably cheaper than a lot of people

London. That’s what my meal preps will come to. Piece of chicken breast and some potatoes or rice. Maybe cooked in a curry or with some veg or something. That’s about what I spend. Even cheaper if doing a spag bowl or lasagna

I could but I don’t think they would be much cheaper and he probably wouldn’t stick with it for long. He said they’re about £6 a meal which isn’t too bad considering he would prob spend £25 on deliveroo. Probably already saving him 4 or 500£ a month so it’s a win I guess. If he went to the supermarket he could prob do good meals for £2-2.50 so I’ll just leave him to it

Lol it’s one we all understand though. I have a friend who is addicted to deliveroo. He probably does it every day at least once. I’ve been trying to get him to just cook something and hes moved on to those delivered ready meal things. Wasn’t really what I meant but he’s saving some money so oh well

exactly my sentiment. The idea that AI is just a chatbot tool to help the worker is extremely short sighted and frankly ridiculous. We have seen how quick it has transformed in the couple months it has been available and although you might not have to be terrified, you should definitely be incorporating its existence into your next career moves. Don't buy a bunch of horses the day before the car is invented basically.

You say, X is true because example A is true. I point out that example A is a very specific and cherry picked example and that there are plenty of other examples showing that X is not always true. You then ask me to prove to you that A is false. You are the one wasting time sir

Well we have yet to see. I personally do not see social conditions getting much better throughout this as the recent history has only made things worse socially. Also there is the fact that the money in the wealthy just gets handed off to their children who tend to want to keep that money.

This is really a different conversation. New jobs will be created but we are entering a time when the jobs that are created, there will be fewer of. We are already in a time when creating a new industry is so difficult. Every market is basically already owned. Pretty soon these markets will be run and created by fewer and fewer people. We're entering into a world of monopolies owned by less people needing fewer workers. It's not really going to be the same as when the combustion engine was created.

You will never die because I am not dead. See, in the one example I give you, I am right. So therefore you will never die. I am not going to argue the one example you give when the point your metaphor was making is ultimately wrong

Okay you're still making the same original point and don't seem to understand that you're doing it. Also, like you said this is a programming sub not a web development sub. The point is, you are making the same point that has been used over and over again in areas not restricted to programming. And for added irony, here is a list of tools that when invented replaced the job of a human, given to me by ChatGPT ATMs: Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) have replaced bank tellers to a large extent. Customers can now withdraw cash, deposit money, transfer funds, check account balances, and do much more on their own, without the need for a human teller. Self-checkout machines: Self-checkout machines have replaced cashiers at many retail stores, enabling customers to scan and bag their items without the need for a cashier. Online booking systems: The rise of online booking systems has led to the decline of travel agents, as customers can now book flights, hotels, rental cars, and other travel-related services online. Automated assembly lines: The use of automated assembly lines in manufacturing has reduced the need for manual labor, as machines can now assemble products faster and more efficiently than human workers. Text-to-speech software: Text-to-speech software has replaced the job of a human reader, allowing people with visual impairments to have books, articles, and other written content read to them by a computer. Voice assistants: Voice assistants like Siri, Alexa, and Google Assistant have replaced personal assistants and receptionists, as they can answer questions, set reminders, make phone calls, and perform other tasks without the need for a human assistant. GPS navigation: GPS navigation systems have replaced the job of a human navigator, as drivers can now get turn-by-turn directions to their destination without the need for a human guide. Digital cameras: The rise of digital cameras has reduced the need for film developers, as people can now take, store, and share photos digitally without the need for a human developer. Online tax software: The rise of online tax software has reduced the need for tax preparers, as people can now file their taxes online using software that walks them through the process. Robotic surgery: The use of robotic surgery has reduced the need for human surgeons in certain procedures, as robots can perform surgeries with greater precision and less risk of error.

Your point is being repeated a lot. That AI will become a tool to assist and won't replace jobs. Then you quote a single piece of technology that has aided a worker rather than replaced them. But this is not how it always works. You need to open your eyes to the possibility that jobs will be lost during the AI revolution. Sure, new jobs will be made. But overall the next stages of technology are ultimately going to raise unemployment over the next hundred years or more
