How do you reconcile having children if you're pessimistic about the future?

Priscaney@reddit

>you want children because it'll make your life better in some or many ways, you do not have kids because you think it's best for them Or because you think / want your miraculous offspring to solve the world's problems. The ego of that one *especially* blows my mind.

Can I go out in public wearing a t-shirt bearing nudity/sex on it?

So now imagine walking about with a t-shirt displaying the bawdy postcard graphic. Exact same image, totally different context. This is likely more an issue of people just thinking you look like a massive bellend and how comfortable you are with that. >I've seen many a risqué t-shirt over the years. Most people don't even notice them. I assure you that if you're got a dick or tits on your top, people most definitely notice.

Sexual harassment = Sexual remarks / comments, (e.g. Someone shouting "*Nice tits love!*") I wouldn't class just *staring* (either with approval *or* dispproval) as sexual harrassment at all, from men or women. More just awkward or crappy social behavior.

And yet you still think *women* are the problem? Idk.. I just think sexual harassment from men would absolutely skyrocket if there we were going about totally topless.

Not necessarily. There's an old guy around here in Hastings who cycles totally nude most days, even past Schools when kids are coming out. Police aren't doing shit about him.

You're still just one person. You cannot speak for anyone else, just your own personal experience. Also, if it didn't hurt you, then you straight-up *didn't* struggle as much as other people. 1500 calories a day with exercise was unbearable agony for me at age 34. At age 20, 500 calories a day while over-exercising wasn't even as much agony. The experience of hunger can vary wildly even for *one* person throughout a single lifetime.

I just bought two more 7.5mg pens from my supplier (the max they'd allow me to buy) and realised it's enough to get me to my goal weight if I lose 2 lbs a week. I've been losing 1lb - 1.5mb per week since I started taking Mounjaro in March so I could perhaps hit that 2lb if I just work out some more. Really though I was hoping to stay on this med for life, so I'm going to see how much the 2.5mg pens will actually cost once the price hike sets in. I think the lower doses will not see as huge a price increase as the higher doses. I'm 38 and I've struggled with eating for my entire life - I grew up with food neglect, then had Anorexia Nervosa in my teens, and then was so poor that my weight plummeted to bmi 16 yet again, and then anti-depressants leaving me feeling like an abyss of endless hunger, and extreme weight gain.. I fucking *deserve* to feel normal and have a healthy relationship with food, and Mounjaro has done all of that and more. I've just been realising since the news dropped that I would pay a LOT of money for this because it's so worth it for my health.

Not sure how anyone with a half a brain could possibly feel fulfilled by something they know is just a language model / not actually a sentient being.

Are people who are privileged enough to live in the countryside just perpetually "*on*" and ready to warmly and merrily greet everyone they pass? It's endearing, but as an autistic person who suffers from depression and social anxiety, and also lives near London so people greeting me normally being an unpleasant chat-up, your expectation baffles me.

About 2 years ago. I had ovarian torsion, a 6cm cyst on one ovary, and my fallopian tubes were blocked with fluid. 10 on the pain scale. I was thrown out of the bed I was given in favor of a man with dementia who I watched keep getting up for little walks, and be told by doctors "You need to stop calling us", while I sat in a wooden chair opposite him while I cried and writhed in agony for hours. It was morning (around 9am) when I went to A+E, and I was in emergency surgery at about 1am.

Buying current trend tad is how kids fit in with each other and part of how they bond. I wouldn't deny them things just because I didn't think they were cool or whatever. I think kids should be able to spend their pocket money on whatever they like.

Reading. I already had ADHD, but it got so much worse during 2020 - 21 with the pandemic and my insane doomscrolling of the news constantly. I feel pathetic about this, as it has been so long now I feel I have no excuses, but my reading *still* isn't how it used to be. I used to adore long classics like War and Peace, but now I'm lucky if I can read a complete pamphlet in one go. Absolutely dire. I'm on a long waiting list for an ASD assessment and I've already been told the wait list on the NHS is around 7 years for this, so I dread to think of the list if I also try to get an ADHD assessment.

Cultural Differences - British people and Dishonesty. Why is lying so often perceived as acceptable, or even polite?

Posted by raben-herz@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 47 comments

The food thing is probably some kind of intergenerational trauma from expectations being placed on children from the post-war era. If you don't love the food you're given, express thanks and eat all of it, you'd be punished or even beaten for not seeming grateful. I was born in the 80s but still remember friends parents having this really weird, sometimes scary attitude around "finishing your plate" and accepting even the most revolting food. I can't explain the other examples. Maybe the first person just found something else that was genuinely better. I'm pretty sure people of other countries have offers fall through like this too though?

Why aren’t more people talking about the stupid age verification bans?

Nudity is no longer forbidden in UK beaches, but is it generally accepted in practice?

Posted by AvelWalarn@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 14 comments

Priscaney@reddit

It's long been legal to be nude in public in general here, not just beaches. >is the new policy completely accepted by the general population Lol, of course it isn't. Most people in this country still have no idea that it's perfectly legal to be nude in public here, and many object to it despite of what the law says. Especially if there are families with kids around and there's a guy stark naked near them. You're better off sticking to nudist beaches or doing it where there aren't folk about. Or find more comfortable swimwear.

Fat people who call themselves "fat cunts" or some other desperate form of self-deprecation. Formerly fat people who aggressively judge currently fat people instead of having empathy for people who struggled with the exact same thing they did - a very obvious projection of self-hatred from when they were fat themselves.

Should we have a wedding or an elopement?

Priscaney@reddit

>We’re starting to look at wedding planning and due to big white wedding my partner would want and the size of our families, we are looking at £10k-£20k+ which feels absolutely absurd to me for one day of entertaining other people. I mean, you say "my partner would want" and then it's absurd "for one day of entertaining other people". For most couples here planning a wedding it's safe to assume the costs go into things that they want, rather than just doing it for other people. (Or that's *ideally* how it'd be anyway!) >Now, we do have a trip to Orlando planned at the end of august and we have a large engagement party in November where the entire family will be there. We had the idea of eloping in Orlando for less than £1k and surprising everyone at the engagement party and having a good night then. This might just feel really weird and odd to the guests tbh. Like "SURPRISE! We're already married!"? It might not go down as smoothly as you're envisioning either, especially if you have - as expected - people at that party before the surprise, asking about your wedding plans. Like you're essentially just lying to everyone and then springing "already married!" on people who were looking forward to your wedding. Why not just do what you are your bride-to-be want to do and be honest with everyone? It looks like you feel like you need to do a lot of legwork here to appease people who are not you or your future wife. People from both of your families might feel lied to and let down about something so important. Just do what you like and be honest?

It's a trend, so it makes people feel part of a group. It's an indicator that you're trendy, or have money, or own something that other people covet, especially if it's a "special" or some kind of rare one. (They come in blind boxes so you don't know the rarity of the one have in your box until you open it). They're extremely social media friendly because people enjoy watching others open the box and see which one they have. Some people find them cute and like the whole creepy/cute thing? I think they're hideous personally and I don't like them, but some people do. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Ah I didn't mean to dampen it, lol. All of those people I knew back then were completely oblivious to the fact that they were participating in someone's kink. Yep, people who work in retail aren't obliged to give randoms special access to private staff-only areas for security and provide drinks. Complaining that a free drink they were given "isn't adequate" when the staff weren't even obliged to provide it in the first place seems a bit mad. >even if I don't kick off Certainly gives the impression OP *has* found situations in which they felt necessary to kick off.

Fetishists.. Some of the people who organise gungings or turn up to watch gunging events have a kink for it. An exes friend set one of these charity gunging events up, got all his mates in on "the fun", and it later came out online that they had a gunging kink. They'd taken hundreds of photos on the day of all of their friends covered in gunge.. It all looked so innocent at the time.
