I knew a cellist a long time ago. We were discussing various professions and our perception of the people in them. Toward the end of the discussion she said, “do you know who are by far the worst, the worst of them all by a large margin!!??” “Who?” I asked, wide eyed. “Musicians!!” She replied.  Since then, every time I meet anyone who is in a group of whatever kind, they always tell me that (the group they know best) is the worst. So I learned that people just like to criticize whoever is closest to them. Take it all with a massive grain of salt.  I appreciate truckers and most people who depend on them (pretty much everyone) do too.  Check out the White House Tribute to Truckers from a few years back.

What would I do for a Klondike Bar today? Honestly, not much.

Dad had a trucking company when I was little and on Christmas Eve we’d do a route for an absent driver and get special hot chocolate at a truck stop.  The truckers and waitresses were happy to see me. I liked the bird’s eye view from the cab.

What is something positive someone told you when we were young that stayed with you forever?

Really basic rules and truisms for Gen-Xers. Rule number one: you're to be seen and not heard. Keep it going in the comments.

Toyota RAV4 v Ford Edge Titanium

No I know. Sometimes you guys comment on which cars have an obnoxious reputation. I value your opinions. I drive a ford now but am considering using a relative’s 2019 Toyota to save $.  My father had a trucking company and I know rep on the road matters.

Apparently some guy from Germany tried to label the U.S. states. As an OTR trucker that's been to all 48 contiguous U.S states, this has had me cracking up all morning 😂

Why do people think truckers are illiterate?

Posted by Ilivetolivelife_@reddit | Truckers | View on Reddit | 327 comments

Plain_Chacalaca@reddit

I think the average person sees a trucker as a highly skilled professional driver responsible and entrusted with expensive equipment and cargo. People know it’s a tough but essential job. Many know the pay has been rising past few years.  That’s why the White House Salute to Truckers a few years ago got a ton of attention and support. I think you all are down on yourselves and don’t know how the rest of us value you, rely on you and understand you make all our deliveries possible.

Going through a breakup while on the road is horrible.

Check out the White House Salute to Truckers from a few years back. It’s on YouTube. Ntsb, owner operators, long haul companies etc. really interesting salute to the industry.

Have a gander at the White House salute to truckers about 6 years ago. It’s useful to understand the dynamics amount the unions, trucking companies, owner operators and long and short haul truckers and how they are affected by policy and the NTSB.

I don’t like playing chicken like that, so if I see them coming down the ramp I try to be considerate, whether staying the same speed, slowing down or speeding up depending on where they are and what will make the situation least dangerous.

I think it's the end of the line for me

When you talk to drivers at the truck stop most use a normal conversational voice. So why is it when they get on the CB they turn into squidbillies?

Best way from Eastern Long Island to NYC?

I ended up trying Route 25A. It’s the two lane scenic route that goes all the way from Calverton to the bridge. Lots of cute towns, coastal scenery and woods. Expressway is awful. Northern Parkway is eh. 25 has a lot of accidents because of all the stoplights and people turning onto the highway from malls.

What’s something you carry in your truck that made your job easier and you recommend to fellow truckers?
