Are suspected functional alcoholics pretty accepted in workplaces?

Yes, it was very sad and I feel my company should have done more to support him in his time of need. The reason he killed himself was because he no longer had transport to go and see his young son, who his ex-wife had recently left him with (starting all of this). Heartbreaking situation and his family don’t even know he was an alcoholic or had been suspended from work. Very sad.

There was a guy at my work who I knew well, he had a lot of crap going on in his personal life. He was a functioning alcoholic as a result of this. In my industry drug and alcohol tests are very common. He got ‘randomly’ tested this time last year, and when the results came back he was suspended and had his company car taken off him. He went home and killed himself. Heartbreaking to be honest.

The UK banned incandescent lights in 2016 and Christmas hasn’t looked the same since. Has anyone found a replacement?

Has anyone ever had DPD ‘Investigations’ turn up at their door?

Same happened to me when a parcel they delivered went missing. The driver came back a few days later aggressively shouting that he left it on the drive, etc. It will have been the driver who came back - don’t worry about it.

Is Invisalign the best option for teeth alignment in the UK?

Yes this doesn’t sound right. My orthodontist scanned my teeth for free and showed me what they would look like in my first consultation before I had paid anything.

I had Invisalign last year, it was around £3500 for everything including retainers, whitening, etc. It’s the best thing I ever did. I get so many compliments on my teeth now. People are always saying I’ve got really nice teeth/smile and it’s so nice when I was really paranoid about my smile before. I’d recommend it to anyone! Worth every penny!

Is TUI Premium upgrade worth it?

PixelPerfecter@reddit

I’ve flown in TUI Premium on the Dreamliner a few times, mainly because I’m a germaphobe and like that you are quite far from surrounding people and the seats are in twos on the outside rows. Plus the fact I’m really tall and like the extra leg room. Personally I prefer it and when you look at it as a whole package I think it’s good value for money. But obviously this is very subjective and depends on your own budget.

How do I get neighbours cat to leave me alone?

No, he was serious. His partner confirmed! I didn’t really know what to say. None of the family like this guy and we’ve always thought he was a psychopath.

I was at a family meal the other day and a distant family members boyfriend told me he had the same issue with a cat coming into their house, so he put the cat in the washing machine on a spin cycle! I couldn’t believe it, he was deadly serious. Said the cat survived but I’ve no idea how! Absolutely shocking.

Do you fake sick days?

Posted by Madic-Hertz@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 17 comments

PixelPerfecter@reddit

More so when I was younger, and in a toxic environment I’d call in sick when feeling a bit rundown (not really needing a sick day but more a rest day) but these days my team are great, my manager is great and I’d feel really guilty for letting them down. That said, if my manager even senses I’m feeling poorly or tired they will tell me to take the rest of the day off - that kind of culture makes you think twice about pulling a sickie…!

Ask yourself what you’re hoping to achieve? If this guy has wronged you, fair enough, report him… if not, keep yourself to yourself and don’t attract the bad karma. He’s not hurting you so don’t bother him.

Literally in the same boat (wanting to move abroad for permanent sunshine and more relaxed culture). Hopefully some people come up with some good suggestions in here.

How do you feel about employers asking for a full return to working in the office?

PixelPerfecter@reddit

I’m fully remote. My job has periods of being extremely busy, where I’ll work well over my hours to get the project over the line and then the opposite, when projects are slow and not much is happening while I’m waiting for things. I would hate to be in the office on those slow times, sitting trying to pretend to be busy so no one thinks I’m skiving. I don’t feel bad for having down time when I know I work really hard for my company and perform well.
