Cloudflare down... again?

I think the rep used almost that exact line. If Azure is down, then you probably have much bigger problems implying that only a nuclear strike could take down Azure lol

You know I've been thinking about signing up for Papercut or something like that to manage all of our network printers. But then something like this happens, and it makes me think the headache of drivers, updates etc. may be worth it to actually be in control of the communication process.

We've had the same thing, Fortinet came to us and told us they recommend we move everything to an Azure fileshare and completely eliminate any on prem storage. They told us there was a 0% chance that Azure could go down and we wouldn't be able to access that data. We tested it for a year while still keeping the on prem stuff. Sure enough, Azure went down, was inaccessible several times that year, we are back to 100% on prem. It is a beautiful dream though isnt it? For a meager monthly fee, completely hands off management and all you have to do is use it when you need it... except it's turned into paying *more* monthly than you would buying the hardware yourself, for a service you can't control at a;; and that fails way more than anything you'd host yourself.

It's a name brand more than anything with decent pricing for the service. I know it's not a perfect solution but I do hope Amazon and Google do full launches of their own competing services to start the diversification process at least.

That's the MSP future we live in now. Nothing is in house, *everything* is outsourced and a monthly subscription. No more fixing anything, or even being able to un and re-plug it in. Send an email to the help desk and hope for the best

"Trust me I've been selling this stuff for *years.* Don't worry, Microsoft, AWS, Cloudflare they all have *so* many servers that even though the *service* is technicality a single point, there is no possible way the whole thing could go down! At the absolute *most*, you might notice a slight slowdown in speed. *Maybe.* https://preview.redd.it/jsmi83t3q02g1.png?width=375&format=png&auto=webp&s=bf2003c3636c3c8c62d541028ed5839cd74fccfd

15%??? Wow. I don't think there is anything specific. I think it's people looking at footage from the 80s and projecting, kind of letting the VHS aesthetic dictate what the 80s must of been like. The truth is I think since the 70s america has been in and out of bad economic times, there really was no utopia (the closest thing might be a stretch of time in the 90s?) I think that even with all the stuff were going through now, in 10/20 years people are going to be looking back at now as the 'good times'.

I think the 80s are just romanticized because of imagined nostalgia, it's more of a VHS aesthetic/vibe that people are projecting onto. No one wants to admit that now is better than then, because now always sucks

I don't think it's settling anything at all, quite the opposite! I just think kids are *really* getting used to the idea of their sexuality being 100% something that is online, and that you do by yourself.

It's seen as a time of opportunity to the youth now more than anything, where good jobs, housing, disposable income were available to anyone who wanted to put in the work. I think the rest of the romanticism comes from the idea that if the 80s were an economic paradise the world must of been paradise in general. For starters, crime is *way* down from where it was back then

I don't know how much you can trust them, but CDC stats are reporting that since Covid, teens who report themselves as having sex, or even dating, has fallen through the floor. Teens will sneak around and have sex and try to hid it always, but I think there is something to this generation being particularly not very sexually active

No offense but if when you Google the product it doesn't show up that's a good sign it's not something a serious organization would really consider. I can't even find the link to this when I Google it... the problem here isn't just getting something that works PDF editing is simple enough, it's buying from a company that will keep things updated, secure and provide support.

I wouldn't touch anything by Kofax with a 10 foot pole. It looks like copyware from 2011 no offense. And the fact that the company has no presence isn't great... at a bare minimum has to be from a known organization that can offer support

My fav. so far is, had a user who used a wired connection exclusively. They wanted to move around the office so set them up on our locked down corporate wifi. 1 hour later, the user has sent in a ticket detialing their theory that their laptop connecting to the wifi must be messing with their wireless mouse signal (because it's all wireless and the waves are running into eachother?) so it wasn't working. Turns out that walking around the office he lost the 2.4Ghz dongle so no wireless mouse. I got him a new one that operates on a special frequency so that it wouldn't fight with the wifi anymore, but because it's specialized he has to keep the dongle plugged in to the port in the back and just never touch it for any reason.

Your going to be a pencil and paper admin? But no joke Windows... in school I mostly used Linux and got the impression that generally speaking computer systems were competent. Cue me being a 90% M365 admin with 12 tickets in my queue today from users who say their email signature dissapeared... because it did. Just another Microsoft glitch they won't admit to, makes no sense, there's nothing you can do about it and if they won't admit to it you know there is no fix timeline.

Or my favorite "It's not broken, you just have to do this/click here/sign as a requirement to use it first". And then getting at least one ticket every month from that user about their broken thing, reminding them they have to click here/do this/sign in first to get it to work, them pretending to understand and remember until 20 days later

Had a guy submit 7 tickets that his airpods wouldn't stay connected to his custom imaged locked down laptop. I forwarded all the tickets to his manager, letting him know that from now on we would be not allowing that user to submit tickets, and would only accept incidents from them as forwarded to us through their manager... in 9 months this person has not submitted anything else

I find it doesn't land anyway. The call you unprofessional for not answering them, you provide proof that you did and they dropped the ball, they basically will say it's part of the leeway they get as managers to drop the ball, so it's a problem if you do it (or they imagine you do) but it's not a fault when they do

!!!!!!!! This was my day today. Kept all day open for when the VP had time to deal with their 'critical' issue. Turns out she left at 3; didn't tell me. Turns out she had no time today, also didn't tell me. So I cancelled everything I had scheduled today to be ready for whenever she was available... and she wasn't. And when she was, she went home early. Don't misconstrue this as me complaining however... she's the one who cuts my checks, and I got a whole bunch of Helldivers fan fiction done today.

WORD!!! And that's what I *love* about IT opposed to every other industry I've worked in previously, we get paid to get the job *done*, not work hard. If your a construction worker and you can finish your day in 2 hours, you better believe your better find a way to look busy or your either going to get more work assigned, or be considered lazy (even though you've already done your job). IT... No one knows what were doing anyway, so as long as everything is working mostly problem free, that's all anyone external cares about! We're paid to keep things running smoothly, so as long as that's happening whether it takes me half an hour or 12 hours a day, I'm earning my paycheck. I have also leveraged an AI or two and some powershelling to reduce my workday by half. Unfortunately I'm not smart enough to not spend all that saved time on Reddit

Are you excited you finally saw something on this subreddit you understood and could correct? Well done! Your sticker is the mail : ) I'd continue, but I'm guessing your not very well liked in your personal or professional life with that attitude, and that the worst insult anyone could direct towards you would pale in comparison to the fact that you have to wake up as yourself everyday, and live your life. But keep on correcting grammar, people really care about what you do and your time and effort is really worth it!
