Do you want your kids to take care of you, if someday, you need daily caretaking?

I have 3 kids and I don’t want them to ever feel obligated to take care of me. I also don’t want anyone taking care of me or ever be in a nursing home. The hope is I die before then or I’ll take myself out when it’s time.

Was turning 50 a pivotal change?

Perimenopause symptoms started getting really bad for me at around 49. I am almost 53 now, still in perimenopause with regular periods and feel like I have one foot in my grave even though I am on HRT. Never saw all of that coming. Don’t even know what to expect from menopause because just perimenopause has been hell.

I'm 54, and over the last few years I've had problems remembering the names of extremely common things.

I have a hard time remembering names of people. I was just thinking of boys I dated when I was a teen and I can’t remember a lot of them. Events too. I did have ECT years ago which erased some of my memory, but perimenopause has definitely made it worse.

Saw this question on another sub: What's your feeling about a full-blown funeral for yourself when you die? Do you want one? Is our generation going to change the tradition?

I thought about donating my body to science. That way the cremation will be paid for and nobody has to worry about it and they can scatter my ashes where they would like to.

Have anyone rebooted your life in your 50s?

I am almost 52 and I really wish I could start over and do something meaningful, but since entering perimenopause I feel like my brain is gone. I feel so stupid, my body is in some sort of crisis and insomnia is insane. I started HRT, but the progress has been so slow. It doesn’t feel like midlife, it feels like the end of life. Does it get better? I used to be a go getter and high achiever, now I barely make it from day to day.

How many of us have bad tinnitus now? What are we doing about it?
